More Trails Issues

I've got a Dell D800 with an Nvidia GeForce FX Go5200 adapter running Vista that isn't updating the background (foreground is updating) and the fish and corals all leave trails. I would assume it's a driver issue. Has anyone had any luck finding a good driver to overcome this problem?

I tried all different resolutions and color settings Nothing changes the symptoms.

Dell D800 Trails

Thanks, I'll look at that forum again. I was looking last night and couldn't find a match.

That's pretty much the only option you have as far as I know. I checked nVidia's ftp site where they have a list of all their drivers, except laptop versions. :(

Ah just noticed it is SW rendering so unlikely to ever work?

OK

(medion laptop is model WIM 2160. Other numbers on it ar MD96290 and 1257)

Ran the update driver from the Vista device manager, after a long long time scouring the web it loaded a driver update and now the screensaver runs correctly even though still on software.

Glad to hear it. That frame rate is not too bad for software emulation.

After trying several drivers , I got frustrated and went out and bought a new video card , an ATi Radeon 9550 , which has solved the problem nicely and the aquarium looks great . I used the latest drivers from the ATi website ( not the ones that came on the disc ) , and it went like clockwork . Maybe not the most impressive card on the market , but it had to work with a Celeron . It gets a very smooth 111fps .

I was almost hit by an older driver the other day.........

OH, you meant VIDEO drivers.....

(In voice of Gilda Radner's SNL character)... "Nevermind".... :D

Unhappy Trails

Trails persist on my Sony VAIO laptop with a 1280x800 (60 Hz) monitor, running Vista Business (SP1) with a Mobile Intel 945 Express Chipset Family graphics card. I went to the manufacturer's website and found & installed the latest driver update compatible with my particular model (VGN-C250N), version 7.14.10.1295 dated 6/26/2007. To no avail, alas!

Also, changing screen resolution, 32/16 bit color, and full/windowed mode settings make no difference.

On the other hand, MA3 is truly glorious on my wife's older VAIO. She is running XP Home Edition 2002 (SP3) with an Intel 82852/82855 GM/GME Graphics Controller, driver version 6.13.1.3485 dated 3/13/2003 [not a typo!].

Any chance of a screen shot?

My daughter's Vaio laptop runs MA3 perfectly at a blazing 110 fps.

I have a screenshot but don't see a way of uploading it. (The FAQ says something about a "Manage Attachments" button, but I don't see that...)

BTW, I did find a newer driver for the graphics card (version 7.14.10.1387 dated 03/07/2008). However, my particular VAIO model was not listed among the target models and when I tried to install it I got the message "This update is not intended for use with your computer model."

Wait, "Attach files" just appeared! Here is the screenshot.

I daren't say it again, but have you...

..... Here's a before and after!

Jim Sachs 12-28-2008 02:35 PM

There's a strong possibility that it's a driver problem, because the background is not the only thing that's missing. The gravel front and many of the shadows are also not rendering. This can also happen if you run out of texture ram.

Randwulf 12-28-2008 03:09 PM

I'm running DirectX 10, latest version. I did try re-updating for good measure, but it is the same...

Not really on-topic, but this is why I will never buy a Sony computer again. It took me over 10 hours to install Windows 2000 on a Sony laptop that was "designed for XP".

95% of the drivers I downloaded would have worked perfectly but Sony insists on checking exact model numbers and failing with "This update is not intended for use with your computer model" messages. I saw that message so many times, I wished I could carve it into the chest of a Sony manager.

Sorry for the rant...

There's probably a great driver out there, but the odds of being able to actually install it due to these idiot checks is probably very low.

Didn't this issue come up while in the Alpha testing?... on almost any Vista notebook with the 945 Express Chipset.. A new driver fixed the problem.. but because of Sony's policy to only let "approved" drivers install this was not possible by one of the testers..

I've got trails on my Sony VAIO laptop with 1280x800, running Vista (SP1) with a Mobile Intel 965 Express Chipset Family graphics card. I went to the manufacturer's website and found I already had installed the latest driver update compatible with my model (VGN-FZ-160E), version 7.14.10.1230 dated 3/16/2007. I've tried the same basic things as many above, different resolutions, etc. Any hope? I have MA 2.6 running well on the same laptop.

johnmeeus 03-15-2009 01:52 AM

I have the same problem with my DELL Inspiron 6400.
On the dell website I downloaded the latest driver for the Intel mobile 945 chipset.

This is also the same on a DELL laptop (Inspiron 640)0 using the same chipset !
Is there a workaround to install the latest driver from the INTEL website ?
