What's it look like?

Can we get a screen shot of this aquarium?

Jav400 03-05-2003 06:14 AM

This one is supposed to be out very shortly. You will be amazed. :)

can we download the demo when it's out?

Jav400 03-05-2003 06:45 AM

This one should be up and available within about 10-15 days ( time warp not included :) ).

Liath 03-05-2003 09:45 AM

Yay! I wasn't that interested in MAT (although I had to download it anyways :) ). Now I have something to look forward to. :TU:

Prolific to introduce Goldfish Aquarium
Prolific Publishing will be introducing a new goldfish-themed screen saver in the coming weeks, developed using the same tools which have been designed to help Jim Sachs in his creation of SereneScreen products.

The new Aquarium has been entirely created by Prolific artists/programmers and will initially arrive as a test version with:
  • 3 unique goldfish varying in size and shape
  • Individual fish behavior
  • Realistic swimming/fin physics and new collision avoidance

I have seen an early version of the GA and despite Reichart's insistance that it is a primitive version, I was simply stunned.

Goldfish don't do much for me and I don't want to build up too much hype, but I think Marine Aquarium users are going to be jealous of the GA for a while (at least until the same physics/behaviors are introduced into MA).

https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...=&postid=22717

I'd have to say that and that there has finally been a successful marraige between "hard-coded" animation (which prevents the fish from 'snapping to' different animations but instead, seamlessly melding from one to another) and physics/math-driven animation which has, in the past, yielded jerky unrealistic or non-natural results.

Derrek 03-05-2003 11:46 AM

What great news! First it was MAT then news of a 2.0 version in the works, now this!!

Vish 03-05-2003 05:47 PM

WOW ! !

Thats all I can say...

IXNAY 03-06-2003 08:20 AM

Hey sounds cool, do you know anything about system requirements?

Sergiales 03-06-2003 08:22 AM

We've received a lot of great news during the last days:
- Sachs Marine Aquarium 2.0
- GoldFish Screensaver
- PrideFlag Screensaver

Cool!

Jav400 03-06-2003 09:35 AM

IXNAY,

System requirements will hopefully be in the same area as what you currently need. The physics that is used in this one will be transposed to the others after this. And believe me, if you didn't know that this thing was generated on your computer, you would swear that you were watching a real goldfish swim. Thats exactly what it looks like. :)

Vish 03-06-2003 01:22 PM

Wow ! !

Is there any specific release date?

Reichart 03-07-2003 04:46 AM

Golden fried fish.

Feldon: Q: Individual fish behavior (AI)
A: I’m always shy of using that word, since my definition of AI is: computers grows, realizes we are annoyance, wipes humanity off planet. In other words, the moment we realize that we accomplished AI, we are doomed.

Lets call it CL, computer logic.

I developed AI for military style automated vehicles, they quickly learned to kill you (not me, just you). Then find more fuel, then “relax.”

Sergiales: Q: PrideFlag

A: that is FlagPride, www.FlagPride.com, and we also announced MA Time, which is being tested now.

Jav400: Q: System requirements will hopefully be in the same area as what you currently need.

A: Yes. But Goldfish requires a LOT more processing. It is doing some amazing things in real time.

Vish: Q: Is there any specific release date?
A: Should be in less than a month, just a three fish version.

Drfish: Q: Can we get a screen shot of this aquarium?
A: Yes. But I just know that the moment you see this you will just ask for more. More pixels, more resolution, more detail.. The requests will never stop. And yes, the plants move, and there will be bubbles.

IXNAY 03-07-2003 10:47 AM

Thanks for the question Jav, sounds great.
Seems to be like the freshwatertank (moving plants). Was there cowork with Jim? If not, maybe someone wasted time then...

Just one question left:
Can we get a picture with more pixels and bigger resolution and more detail????????????????????????????????? :D

FrogMastr 03-07-2003 11:47 AM

plant movement

What kind of movement are we talking about?

Gentle sway or wil be moving when a fish... moves water at close range of the plant or hit the plant for biting algae?

Sachs and I have worked together for over a decade and a half, we consult each other on things completely unrelated to Aquariums, or even software.

But to answer your question, yes, Sachs is part of everything. Also, the team leads that make up GoldFish (which include Will Ware, and an Artist to be announced soon, and myself, have all worked together over the years, and we even had a company together over a decade ago. The artist is world renowned, and even holds an important patent in the process of art creation, and I believe he just was nominated for an Academy Award Oscar for technical achievement, and won. Yup, our little guppies have “star” quality.

P.S. I call Jim “Sachs” because we have here:

Jim Sachs "Artist, programmer, illusionist (and I use this world carefully)"
Jim Rathbun, “MIS, Installer writer, and my right hand man”
Jim “James” Host “Biologist, programmer, grammarian, and master tester.”
Jim O’Connor “Mac Programmer, and perhaps one of the most easy going guys I have ever met”

I’m glad to call them friends, but what is it with American’s named Jim, and Brits named Simon?

IXNAY 03-08-2003 09:33 AM

Hey the background is green/blue, does it have other colours?

drfish 03-08-2003 08:43 PM

Thanks for the picture, I can't wait to see it for real! :)

When you say 3 fish version, Does that mean that it has three types of GoldFish or it means that you can have three fish max at one time?

Reichart 03-08-2003 10:54 PM

3 Fish

3 Fish types (body types) to choose from.

Most likely 5 at same time on screen, because the size of everything is different, and these fish are more detailed.

patscarr 03-08-2003 11:05 PM

Will additional future goldfish be a free upgrade? :)

Reichart 03-08-2003 11:39 PM

Golden fish

.1 Q: Will additional future goldfish be a free upgrade?
A: Your avatar image makes you look like a FED, and mine makes me look like a serial killer….hmmm….

Our plan is to release the product and move to version 1 as fast as possible. Perhaps after about two weeks of being out. Then, we will add some number of unique fish (bodies + textures). This will be somewhere between 3, and 20. (so months from now, don’t be telling me “I promised something”).

Somewhere between 1.0 and 2.0 the product will be very stable, and will feature many new cool behind the scenese features along with all the other products, like:
Multi-monitor support.
Integrated WideScreen.
Self diagnoses for improved video performance and latest drivers.
Packages: Packaged objects (fish, tanks, flags, ornaments)

All this will be included in the original price.

Then, we will release 2.0, and we will charge for new packages.

Jim Sachs 03-09-2003 12:46 AM

I always thought patscarr's pic looked kind of like Judge Reinhold in Beverly Hills Cop.

Tiny Turtle 03-09-2003 01:39 AM

That's so true, Jim! – So now you're a FED and a cop (and a judge ;) ), Pat. Any more law enforcement roles you're striving for?

so when 2.0 comes out, we(ppl who purchase the beta version) need to pay an upgrade price right?
and the price for v2.0 should be more expensive then the original price of v1.0 right?
But however, I think all those features in v1.0 is enough for whatsoever the original price is, coz it has too many goods.

Just wondering, what will be added in 2.0, it must be super good that need to charge for new packages.

oh,btw, can u tell us the vague value of the beta version of goldfish aquarium? (no matter what, I'll buy it this time, to avoid any upgrade cost might be in between v1.0 to v2.0 :), I learnt)

Tanks? Flags? What do these objects have to do with a Goldfish aquarium???
If you were referring to "tank" as in "aquarium", then I understand, but you have it listed as an object.

patscarr 03-09-2003 02:31 AM

I hope it does NOT resemble this...

:)

Jav400 03-09-2003 06:29 AM

If it does, I forsee sales being very low.

IXNAY 03-09-2003 06:50 AM

Haha, nice one ;)

cjmaddy 03-09-2003 06:52 AM

Nice one Patrick, .... exciting isn't it! :)

Movement a little jerky, - perhaps a better video card required? ;)

Jim Sachs 03-09-2003 12:26 PM

Oh, no - It's been pirated already.

grape_jellyfish 03-09-2003 04:38 PM

I think if I was those pirates I would throw that one back into the ocean.

Cuddlywolf 03-10-2003 03:55 PM

Sounds exciting. I am glad to see the new releases and the improvements that are being made.

GOLDFISH

LOL, PATSCARR. (seriously though) This new goldfish aquarium is looking very promissing indeed.:TU:

bratboy 03-11-2003 08:16 AM

Uhmmm silly question but has Jim and prolific considered some sort of Tank Changer? By that I mean an app or feature so when we have 3 or 4 (once FWA is out) so the SS cycles thru them.

Just an idea, hehe

Wizwad 03-11-2003 08:50 AM

Hi all.

I apologise in advance if this has already been asked, I'm still new to this. I've tried to catch up on all the past posts, but there comes a point where it all becomes just a sea of words. :)

Can the fish in the GA swim around freely? What I mean is, one of the few things about the MA that needs improvement is the 2 layer setup where fish are constrained to swim to and fro, fro and to, stopping if they bump into each other rather than swimming around each other, and never, ever, swimming toward or away from the camera (except to do a quick turn).

My impression/hope was that the introduction of a fully 3D coral (front :) ) would solve this so the fish would be free to swim wherever they wish.

I'm getting mixed messages about the Goldfish Aquarium - parts are still 2D, parts (like the plants) are 3D.

In short, will the fish be able to swim from the front of the tank to the back and vice versa?

Confused of Essex.

Tiny Turtle 03-11-2003 10:01 AM

Apology denied :) – There's no need for one as this subject still is unclear. Hopefully the Hawaiian bloke with the sympathy haircut for the follically challenged can shed some light on this.

/Tiny Hairdo (I'm more of a weirdo :) )

cjmaddy 03-11-2003 11:22 AM

Mark,
That is something I also brought up way back ....... (Check out these posts for more details!)

https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...6901#post16901
https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...7102#post17102

I too would like what you are wishing for, - somewhere, but I haven't found it yet, Jim goes into some detail about not liking the 'front on' view of some fish. - That was one of the reasons, and also the original SSA is very shallow back to front! ..... I hope I've remembered all this correctly! (If not, I'm in the dog house! :))

feldon34 03-11-2003 11:51 AM

The Goldfish have no qualms about facing the "camera" for long periods.

And I think it's safe to say that the Goldfish Aquarium will not operate in 2 "planes" the way the Marine Aquarium does.
