Will not save as default screensaver.
Installed screensaver but will not save as the default screensaver.
Example..I change the activation time to 1 minute and click apply, come back 10 minutes later and no screensaver. I click on the settings/ screensaver tab and it shows that no screensaver is selected. I am not stupid when it comes to these sorts of things but this is just not working. Any suggestions? Have tried uninstalling and re-installing several times to no avail. |

Yep just tried again....re-installed and clicked "Apply" after changing the settings.
Re-booted comp and went to the screensaver tab and it says "No screensaver selected." All other screensavers still work fine and appear in the screensavers tab after I click apply / exit and then go back into the screensavers tab. Just the Marine one does not show again. |
Open C:\Windows\System32
Rename Marine Aquarium 2.scr to MarineAquarium2.scr (removing the spaces) I hope this will be fixed in a future version of the Aquarium. |
My friend you are a legend..
Thank you this fixed the problem. Now im off to find Nemo. THANKYOU |
That only happens to selective people? How come mine is Marine Aquarium 2.scr (with spaces) and works.

You're running XP?

Yes-

I just noticed a funny thing. It is still written to the registry in good old DOS (8.3) notation: C:\WINDOWS\System32\MARINE~2.SCR. That is using Windows XP home.
When I change the registry key to C:\WINDOWS\System32\Marine Aquarium 2.scr it won't select the MA2 and it reverts to none. Clue maybe... ? btw Windows9x does not write this setting to the registry but to system.ini (or maybe win.ini, I forget). |
Mine is in C:\WINNT\system32

Morgan,
When I set that registry value including quotes it does not work either. Anyway, display properties configuration does not use quotes but still uses DOS names. Silly Micro$oft! By the way, this is the registry key that contains your current screensaver: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop\SCRNSAVE.EXE And I also found that you can indeed tweak Windows to disable 8.3 filenames. See screenshot made from Xteq X-setup. Now if someone who experiences this problem could download X-setup and check the shown setting to test my theory... |
