New SereneScreen Website Design

Hi, Guys - (Cliff - Go do something else for a minute) :)

My friend Reichart and his friend, physicist Garrett Lisi, will be the hosts of a new show on the History Channel called Invention USA, starting Dec 9.

MA3 will be highly visible during the show, on most of the monitors in their "lab". In order to take full advantage of the exposure, we are re-designing the SereneScreen website.

If anyone is interested in seeing a non-functioning mockup, here's a link: www.fish-byte.com/NewSite.html

Ralph 11-25-2011 03:53 PM

Looks okay.. If I was to be critical.. :D.. I think there are better angles to capture the MA3 than the one you picked. The crystal is worth showing I would think, as well as a list of features.. music, image on crystal, choice of format on clock..

Nicki 11-25-2011 04:06 PM

Sweet. I'll definitely watch that show when it airs in Canada in 2013. But wait, isn't the world going to end in 2012? Just kidding, I'll definitely watch it and tell all my friends I know the guy who made the virtual aquarium. And they'll all say "Yeah yeah, Nicki, you just keep on believing that".

:D

Jim Sachs 11-25-2011 04:28 PM

Ralph - This page is a Gateway -- we wanted to keep the main page uncluttered. All the things you mentioned and more will be covered on the page that comes up by clicking on the image of the Aquarium. Clicking on either Reichart or me will take you to our bios. Clicking on Garrett will take you to a page where you can buy his E8 T-shirt. Clicking on the History Channel logo will take you to their main website, and the Inventions logo will go to the site for the show.

Many of the items which currently clutter up the SereneScreen site will be on the News page.

patscarr 11-25-2011 05:42 PM

Very interesting. Looks good. How the heck did Reichart get his own show?!

Jim Sachs 11-25-2011 06:25 PM

He's very well-connected.

Marian Nichols 11-25-2011 07:13 PM

I think this is the greatest news, exposure is everything. I was going to suggest a Facebook page for Serene Screen, it's very easy to set up and if friends click like and share the page, there's more exposure and it's free.

Jim Sachs 11-25-2011 08:21 PM

There's already a Facebook page. Patrick owns it.

patscarr 11-25-2011 10:01 PM

My Serenescreen facebook page is just a fan page (like this forum). Jim, you or your wife, or daughter should make the official Serenscreen Facebook page (like serenescreen.com).

jimkraz 11-26-2011 09:16 AM

I like it, uncluttered, yes that'll do me, nice.

Time Crystal Pilot 11-26-2011 01:34 PM

On the left, I'd rather see Jim with a brush, palette & tripod easel, the easel really being a computer screen that shows the same image as the large screen (or a magnified region thereof), but partly in wireframe mode. The large screen would not have to be so dominant then, and perhaps not tilted so much (if at all).

Very rough and incomplete sketch:

Just my two (Euro) cents.

Christof

Nicki 11-26-2011 05:56 PM

I'm still liking the hat. It's really cool :)

Jav400 11-26-2011 06:34 PM

Still makes me think of Captain Nemo every time I see it.

I know you still have that sculpture/carving you did of the Nautilus somewhere don't you Jim?

patscarr 11-26-2011 07:40 PM

Good idea Christof

Jim Sachs 11-26-2011 09:02 PM

Thanks for the suggestion, Christof, but it doesn't quite work for me. The second image of the Aquarium is redundant and adds clutter. The product name is forced into the lower corner where it doesn't fit. I'll stick with the original idea.

Re: the hat -- it's just a cheap Halloween hat that's only good for photos from a distance. It was about $5 online. I'd like to get a nice one that I could actually wear in public.

Michael - Yep, still have the model. It will go in a permanent wall niche in the new Nautilus gameroom.

Jav400 11-27-2011 03:40 AM

Jim,

Would this do?

Jim Sachs 11-27-2011 11:15 AM

The top part is perfect, but I'd like a plain black bill, like Captain Nemo's hat: http://img.yaboon.com/movie/4162.jpg

feldon34 11-27-2011 01:35 PM

I think the central artwork and people are fine. The typography at the top and bottom need some cleanup though. If I have a moment I'll take a pass at it on Monday.

Jim Sachs 11-27-2011 02:00 PM

Thanks, but I'll do that. The text at the top and bottom are constantly changing at this point.

Jav400 11-27-2011 06:07 PM

Jim,

See if this one is any better...................................

The main options screen at first shows a white one, but you can click the drop down menu for a navy blue one.

Jim Sachs 11-27-2011 10:34 PM

That would have been perfect if it wasn't for the gold braid on the bill.

Here's a link to a promo for Invention USA:

patscarr 12-03-2011 01:17 PM

Oh my goodness. I'll give this a try, but I doubt if I can stick with it.

feldon34 12-05-2011 06:07 AM

I'm sure Cliff will pass. ;)

Jim Sachs 12-14-2011 01:40 PM

If anyone is interested in looking at Reichart's show, the first two episodes are now online at
http://www.history.com/shows/inventi...-balls-of-fire

MA3 is shown a lot in the background during the sequences filmed in his barn.

Ralph 12-14-2011 07:59 PM

Gives one a new perspective on Reichart and Garrett.. But your SS in the background is nice Jim:TU:

Jav400 12-14-2011 09:09 PM

It was good to see the aquarium in the background, but:

I can't say that I would ever watch that show again though.

Ralph 12-14-2011 10:45 PM

Once is probably more than enough. I do think that Reichart and Garrett made a mistake by not investing in that exploding bullet thing though. There must be any number of arsonists that would pay handsomely for a gun like that.

Jim Sachs 12-14-2011 11:17 PM

Ha, ha - yeah, the whole time I was thinking, "Even if this worked, do we really need flaming bears running around in the woods?"

The inventions in the second episode are much more practical, especially the emergency lowering device.

Jim Sachs 12-15-2011 12:49 PM

I've been working on some "Did you know...?" pages for the new website. I've done 5 so far, and have at least 3 more to go. It was always frustrating that I had no good way of telling people about all the features that were added between v2.6 and v3.2. You can see a test by clicking on the button in the lower-left of the new page:

http://www.fish-byte.com/NewSite.html

patscarr 12-15-2011 03:37 PM

Looks great. Don't forget, add your own music.

Ralph 12-15-2011 03:52 PM

Nice idea :TU: No doubt the next 3 will include.. Did you know, you can add your own picture(s) on the crystal; music playlist; number of fish; multiple monitors; panning speed...
I think it would be a good idea to have a link to those "Did you know" series from this forum as well.

Jim Sachs 12-15-2011 06:37 PM

Thanks, Ralph -- make that at least 5 more to go...

Someone once posted a really nice pic of multiple monitors. Anybody happen to remember where that was?

jimkraz 12-16-2011 08:05 AM

Liking the new site format, the information pages are a useful addition for new customers and perhaps a number of existing users. Jim

Jav400 12-16-2011 09:19 AM

I think you are going to need to pick from a few or maybe double up on a few pages, cause if you plan on making a page for all that then I doubt anyone is really going to sit and click through 15 pages.

Just my opinion though.

feldon34 12-16-2011 09:56 AM

I'm guessing these are mockup pages and the actual info will be in a javascript panel that you can just use arrows to go left-and-right. At least I hope that's what's done. No need for a pageload for each tip.

Time Crystal Pilot 12-17-2011 08:34 AM

The flying music score looks awesome, though unfamiliar. Must be some special notation for Ned Land's turtle shell ukulele. ;)

Jim Sachs 12-17-2011 09:54 AM

Ha, ha - either that or free clip art :)

ESHIREY 12-17-2011 02:23 PM

For me I liked it. That phone glove would sell big time around here. People don't want to go anywhere without there phone and it gets cold as a witches elbow around here. I will checkout the other one too.
