Fullscreen with rough leaves

I wonder why the Fullscreen has rough leaves while
the Window Mode has smooth leaves ??????

My PC configuration:
Windows XP professional with SP1, DirectX 9.0b
Winfast GeforceFX 5900XT, Forceware 61.36

The background is designed for 1024 x 768 I think. If you scale it up, it will be jagged.

Turn on any level of AF and it should smooth that right out... Works for every ATI card I've tried anyway...

Hi, I'm running Goldfish Aquarium at 1024 x 768 x 32 bits.

Thanks for your reply.

Yes, you're right. I have known this before this post.

I just want to know that is there a shortcut or registry changing which
can solve this problem. I don't want to turn on the level of AF because
it may suffer FPS losses for some games.

Moreover, why the screen was different between the Fullscreen and the
Window Mode ???
Are there anything wrong with the coding insided the
Goldfish Aquarium ???

Thanks for your reply.

I second that question. The difference in size between those two sets of plants are neglible. Clearly there is some sort of antialiasing in effect in the windowed mode version.

Also, Doc, doesn't AF usually stand for "Anisotrophic Filtering" while AA is the acronym of choice for "Anti-Aliasing"?

Yep, but in this case what you indeed need is AF, not AA, and it doesn't make any difference if you use 2x or 16x, it looks exactly the same.

Here's an image illistrating my point, you'll want to open it in an image viewer and zoom in to see the details... Both images for each section were taking from the same screen shot so you would know for sure what settings were on or off.

The plants in the AF only shot are clearly superior to either of the other two, there's also basically no performance hit... With AF off, even if AA is on, the movement of the plants looks choppy, with AF on it's perfectly smooth...

This has been the case on 4 different ATI cards (spanning all kinds of different drivers) that I've run GA on, Jenifer's Radeon 32meg DDR (where these shot just came from), my old Radeon 8500, the Radeon 7500 in the HTPC and my 9700Pro... Haven't run GA on my 6800GT yet...

Edit: BTW, these shots were taken at 1024x768...

Edit 2: Just tried it on my 6800GT, the jaggy plant problem simply doesn't exist regardless of AA or AF settings (or screen resolution)... Looking at zoomed screen captures show little to no effect at all on the plants, even 8xAA vs nothing at all!

Cool find but small pics...

There was a disclaimer... ;) I didn't want a resize to distort the shots, notice I also saved as png to avoid quality loss...

I would guess you'd get the same results on your 9600...

Yup – but I'm a trusting kind of a guy today... I'll take your word for it.

It's a shame these leaves require AF to look any good, since many older cards don't have it.

I have found that 800x600 they don't look nearly as bad as at 1024x768 though (on my other system, which lacks AF).
