lionfish

I was wondering if there was any way to have or download the lionfish with the 0.99L version? I upgraded to v1.1 but I didnt care too much for the dark blue background.. i really liked the v0.99L background as it turns green/blue and not all dark blue. Is this something that is possible? Thank you.

The Lionfish is not a downloadable "fish". It is part of the whole of Serenescreen. But, you can adjust the background by using the arrow keys while the aquarium is running. Hopefully you can find the background color you like by this process.

AHH ok :) Thanks!

feldon34 03-03-2003 11:43 PM

Wow. This is the first negative comment I've heard on the background in 1.0/1.1.

I run mine deep blue. :)

At the risk of feature creep, maybe this is something Prolific could put into the settings panel.

cjmaddy 03-04-2003 03:46 AM

Well here's the second! :)

I too like to run mine VERY deep blue, particularly for MAT.

But I liked the blue/green background better! :TU:

Not as good as the old background, Michael. (IMHO of course!)

Jav400 03-04-2003 06:22 AM

WOW 2x. :) Thats the only 2 times that I have seen someone say that they didn't like the deep blue as well as the old background color.

feldon34 03-04-2003 08:13 AM

All my opinions...

The previous color scheme ranged from black, to mud, to dark green, to retina-piercing green.

The new color scheme ranges from black, to a beautiful navy blue, to dark aqua, to the aforementioned bright green.

Tiny Turtle 03-04-2003 09:15 AM

– But the green is still retina-piercing, then? ;)

More opinions .... :)

Sorry if I've touched a nerve, not my intention, just that I had always thought the new colours were lacking that beautiful transition through dark blue/green, but no big deal, I love the VERY dark blue nearly as much! :)

For those that can't remember ...... ( ..... on second thoughts, perhaps a tad muddy? ;) ;) )

Jim Sachs 03-04-2003 09:48 AM

I changed the lower-end colors to be on the blue side instead of muddy. User opinion seems to be running about 50,000 to 2 in favor of this.

feldon34 03-04-2003 10:26 AM

Cliff,

That is, in my humble opinion, mud. :)

Now what button do I press here to get a background JPEG?

/me resurrects an old prototype picture. I would love to see this still as my backdrop...

https://www.feldoncentral.com/Sachs/...PlusMockup.jpg

In both cases, I would be perfectly happy with these simply fading up and down slightly.

NOTE: These are NOT real products!! They are prototypes!!

Derrek 03-04-2003 10:38 AM

I love the 2nd pic, it would be really cool if you could get the surface of the water to move.

feldon34 03-04-2003 10:44 AM

Well, that's why Jim won't do this.

He wouldn't be happy until the water rippled and had PERFECT reflections and lighting, which has NEVER been done in real-time 3D on any PC that I've seen and would take probably a year for Jim to write.

So scratch that one. :(

Jim Sachs 03-04-2003 11:04 AM

Exactly.

IXNAY 03-04-2003 11:12 AM

Hm, I like those pics.
A pic behind the corals isn't that bad, look at the simaquarium, that's a lot better than Jim's I think. I looks much more realistic then a changing backgroundcolour. Can someone make a poll about that? I think I'm not alone with that...

Jim Sachs 03-04-2003 01:00 PM

The point is, it would have to move to be realistic, and that's just not possible yet. Remember, this is an aquarium, not a reef.

feldon34 03-04-2003 02:09 PM

If I had a real Aquarium, I would have SOMETHING back there.

cjmaddy 03-04-2003 03:08 PM

OK,OK! - If I'm 1:25,000, - I know when I'm out of step :o - (after all, I DO like the dark blue background! :) )

But please, please, please, NO blurry pic behind the coral a la sim-aquarium, - now that really would be a http://www.cjmaddy.co.uk/web/ThumbsDn4x_ani2.gif

Sorry IXNAY, but in my opinion, "much more realistic", it ain't!

Morgan, In my real aquarium, guess what I had back there! ......... A piece of dark blue cloth! :D - (looked great!)

Derrek 03-04-2003 05:35 PM

I don't own a reef set-up (I only have freshwater) but the ones I've seen usually have the reef built up the back wall almost to the top.

I used to be of that mentality myself, but these days, I would probably switch back and forth on occasion depending on my mood.

Jim,

Just a couple of thoughts here, but would either of these ideas be feasible for the SSA and/or Freshwater versions as an option to the existing background functionality?

- Allow users to choose from 3-5 background images supplied by you Jim (images NOT requiring any 3D animation)

- Allow users to choose from ANY background image by browsing what's on their hard drive

Couple either one of the above with the current background functionality and it would be a nice change, but you tell me if it's even something you would consider, Jim. Unless of course you already have plans for the 3D background to have the reef built up along the back wall almost to the top (similar to what Derrek described)?
