Marine 3.0 beta yet?

Is there a beta of the new Marine aquarium 3.0 yet? I thought there might be something coming out by now.

I know people get annoyed with the ETA question but it has been 5 years! LOL

Hopefully there will be something soon to keep us all going.

fingers crossed

Tiny Turtle 09-07-2007 07:01 AM

Nope, not yet. Jim has said MA3 will be out before the end of the year though.

loub516 09-07-2007 07:23 AM

Yes, but which year? ;)

Maybe Jim to treat us all to some screenshots or a beta version to play with? You know the guys/girls on the forum will buy it anyway but it would be great to have something to play with.

Jav400 09-07-2007 08:18 AM

I've seen some mockups and renderings of what Jim is doing. It looks fantastic as usual, but no pre-release full shots will be given out. The first the general public will see it will be when its released. There is no point in giving hackers and thieves a head start.

ESHIREY 09-08-2007 11:20 AM

You got that right.

Jim Sachs 09-08-2007 12:44 PM

I'm still hoping to have a Beta out by the end of this year, but the sale of my house and the resulting move have really slowed things down.

cjmaddy 09-08-2007 12:55 PM

Now that's what I call a Christmas, (or New Year! ;) ), present! :)

ESHIREY 09-08-2007 03:33 PM

That's for sure. If he can do it. :TU:

Falz 09-08-2007 07:30 PM

How does a screenshot give hackers a head start? LOL

Ralph 09-08-2007 09:46 PM

Anticipation..:D Turns us all on

Tiny Turtle 09-10-2007 01:31 AM

Falz,
Maybe not the hackers, but the guys using the background in their own screensavers which seem to happen every now and then...

enigma63941 09-10-2007 07:20 PM

Hmmmm..so who gets first crack at beta? Is it too early to ask what new fishes are going to be in version 3.0?

Jav400 09-10-2007 08:42 PM

From what I understand from Jim, I think the first plan is to finish 3.0 with the current fish. I am not sure if he has decided to redo them before release or redo them after release. I think he was leaning towards releasing first and redoing as he went afterwards, but I'm not sure if he has made a final determination yet.

Jim Sachs 09-10-2007 10:11 PM

Yes, that's still the plan - to release the first Beta with the existing fish and the new background, then start with the updates.

bugsymcd24 09-11-2007 01:19 PM

well count me in, i am ready for some good old fasion beta testing... it's been a while... LOL

ESHIREY 09-11-2007 04:24 PM

We all are buddy.:)

enigma63941 09-11-2007 05:30 PM

So we can have a background before the year is up and then have the whole year of 2008 to have regular updates..right:loco:

Jim Sachs 09-11-2007 07:30 PM

That's the current plan.

enigma63941 09-11-2007 08:25 PM

Just four more months to go..but no pressure though.

ESHIREY 09-12-2007 11:39 AM

hahahahaha

dspDrew 09-26-2007 05:22 PM

Please tell me this version is going to have dual screen support (unique for each monitor)..

Anybody know?

feldon34 09-26-2007 06:58 PM

dspDrew,

Welcome to the forums!

The background will extend over both monitors, showing something different on each monitor, with fish swimming from screen to screen.

dspDrew 10-15-2007 10:22 PM

Thanks guys, can't wait for this version to come out :)

enigma63941 10-16-2007 01:08 AM

Hmmmm..its November now right? Almost end of the year? Do I see a beta on the horizon?

Jim Sachs 10-16-2007 03:09 PM

It's still October here in Oregon.

ESHIREY 10-16-2007 04:31 PM

:D hahahahahaha same here.

enigma63941 10-16-2007 06:22 PM

By Jims standards we should have one anytime now..and I do mean ANYTIME. Tomorrow, next year..as long as it comes out right:lol:

ESHIREY 10-16-2007 10:59 PM

That's right.

PaulsPics 10-24-2007 08:17 AM

Just having a look see to see if anythings developed as yet and more importantly to keep in touch from Sydney down here.
yes as mentioned above , Christmas is almost here and it would be such a nice one to unwrap a new updated fish tank or even just an addition to the MAT tank, meanwhile time and tide etc etc , and my hair groweth white and suitable for a father Christmas. Maybe Grandpa will get something new to show the yougsters in the 'puter tank' . hope the beta works well and a release is pending . Thanks Jim , for the years of the fish screens .

Jim Sachs 10-24-2007 08:51 AM

I'm back to working on MA3 full-time now that the big move from California to Oregon is over. Forward progress is being made.

ESHIREY 10-24-2007 01:18 PM

That's real good news.

Yellow Tang 10-25-2007 03:08 AM

 It's still october!

Jim Sachs 10-25-2007 09:59 AM

Well, I can say right now that nothing significant will be happening before the end of the month. I'm currently stuck in the busy-work of reversing every texture used by the fish. The old program needed the images to be upside-down, while the new one uses rightside-up textures. I spent the last few days getting the first fish working in the new tank, finding a lot of changes that have to be made to each fish. It took me a while to realize that the eyes and fins were not moving because when you use shaders you are responsible for manually supplying all the transformations for objects; the parts are not automatically multiplied by the World Matrix or their local matrices. Ha, ha - more technical details than you need to know?

Anyway, one fish is now happily swimming around a rather blank tank. In fact, right THROUGH the few objects that are there, since there is no collision-avoidance yet.

cjmaddy 10-25-2007 11:11 AM

Sounds like still a long way to go! - But thanks for the update, Jim. It's nice to hear about progress, (or even lack of!). Much better than hearing nothing at all.... Thanks! :)

ESHIREY 10-25-2007 11:21 AM

In the past I had to put different things together and found out each time after the first one (which was the hardest) the other ones came a lot faster. I think Jim will have the same luck. After one hard one the others will come faster. Keep it up Jim. We all have faith in you that it will come easier for you.

Yellow Tang 10-26-2007 03:20 AM

Which fish? Is is yellow? :D

patscarr 10-26-2007 04:25 AM

Thanks for the great update, Jim!

feldon34 10-26-2007 07:03 AM

Well the Yellow Tang is Jim's favorite fish in the tank -- to my knowledge.
