Goldfish 2.0 Released... Finally

Hello All,

I just wanted to take a few seconds to let you all know that we have released version 2.0 of Goldfish Aquarium. You can download the latest version from http://www.lifeglobe.com. Sorry for the delay in our release. This was due to a new program we have setup here at Prolific to torture out fans... ;-)

Hope you all download and enjoy.

-Jim

Nice release! Of course I upgraded immediately. :)

Thanks for all the new cool tanks and features!!

Falz 02-03-2006 07:42 AM

Nice. I just wonder why the bowls are a lot slower than the tanks?

Edgar 02-03-2006 08:53 AM

Reflection.

Jeremy Bruce 02-03-2006 12:23 PM

Absolutely beautiful. Excellent job.

iMark 02-03-2006 02:13 PM

excellent job, mates....

jaximflash 02-03-2006 02:54 PM

what's new?

can someone who has the new 2.0 release tell us what's new?

I know there are a couple more fish and a new fish bowl scene, but other than that, the details on the website are a bit spotty. Can you change the toy in the fish bowl? Can you change the rock or log in the fish tank?

Any details on the new features would be much appreciated!
:-)

Welcome to the forums, Jaxim!

The new fish, improvements in all the scenes, and introduction of the fishbowl are the major improvements. To my knowledge, you can't change out the toys or appearance of the tanks other than choosing from them.

You are always welcome to download Goldfish Aquarium 2.0 Demo and try it out. It will run for a minute or so at a time before fading to black.

If you already own Goldfish Aquarium 1, you can upgrade to Goldfish Aquarium 2 for $5.95.

iMark 02-03-2006 04:06 PM

I don't believe you can upgrade for free..I had to pay $5.95 to upgrade to 2, and get the new keycode.

feldon34 02-03-2006 04:18 PM

Oops.

Jeremy Bruce 02-03-2006 06:21 PM

I upgraded at once. The speed of the framerate is faster. I compared old and new. The fish move much more smoothly, much like the MA 2. The features of the fish are much finer. The face and mouths of the GA 1 fish were very rough and obviously polygonal. The new features of the fish in GA 2 are smoother and more natural. The fact that the fish are "better" and the framerates are faster makes this a much more pleasurable screensaver to have on in the background while reading, etc.

Is anyone else having problems with their creditcard being declined?

Goldfish 2.0

I updated right away ! The new log is much, much better than the older stone for the centerpiece. This update is a huge improvement, a must upgrade to all of the people with the existing goldfish. Thanks for the update, better late than never.

Pham Huu Hanh 02-03-2006 10:13 PM

A problem with me is not 6$,but I have to upgrade by letter cash,so I must wait three week for new keycode.

Goldfish 2

After playing around a couple of days I have noticed that the goldfish seem to gravitate to the front of the tank (screen) and not interact naturally with the enviroment inside their space. After a while I have noticed they all swim towards the front screen, unaturally? Even in skypx post above the golfish are all facing the front.

edaniels 02-05-2006 09:49 PM

Hey, everyone... Thanks for all the positive comments! I'm glad you like the new version. I was able to fix a few things that had always bothered me about 1.0, and implement a few things I had been scheming up, like the goldfish bowl. When everything new was done, I went back through all the fish and touched up their mouths' shape and animation... I'm glad you noticed, Jeremy!

Everret, I hadn't noticed that the goldfish tend to gravitate towards the front of the tank... But I'll look into it. Maybe whatever you're doing in your computer room is particularly fascinating to fish...?

dwax 02-06-2006 06:01 AM

I noticed the same thing, they all look like thier trying to get out of the tank.instead of swimming around they spend most of the time right there looking at you.

feldon34 02-06-2006 08:16 AM

Actually, that is not unrealistic for real goldfish, but I guess the effect is too much?

New Features

well, I downloaded the free trial to see what was new. It seems like (other than what was already mentioned in this thread), that a few new fish were added, a new fishbowl screen was added, and a few tank objects (rock, wood) were added.

I was actually hoping that a few fishtank toys would have been available (e.g. the very two classic fish toys: the treasure chest and the castle --- and maybe even a little diver toy) I was also hoping that these objects could be added to the fishtank scene (the one where the water takes up the entire screen) and not just to the fishbowl scene. I was also hoping you would be able to change the background and/or gradient of the fishtank scene with a custom background and/or gradient. As well as being able to change the color of the pebbles (i.e. in the blue fashion of the Media Center version.) But hopefully some, if not all, of these changes will be in the 2.5 or 3.0 version.

Overall, it's still the greatest fish screensavers out there. I'm going to be purchasing 2.0 right now.

p.s. does anyone know if they make a 2 monitor version so that the entire fishtank takes up the space of both monitors? That way when 1 fish leaves one monitor, it appears in the other monitor. A 2 widescreen monitor setup is pretty common where I work, and it would be great if I had a 2 monitor screensaver. :-)

dwax 02-06-2006 08:47 AM

Looks alright I suppose,it just looks like they are hungry LOL

feldon34 02-06-2006 10:01 AM

Treasure Chest is reserved for SereneScreen Freshwater Aquarium (should it see the light of day). I've seen the Treasure Chest fully animated and working when I was in California visiting Jim a couple years back. It's astoundingly realistic.

Tiny Turtle 02-06-2006 10:09 AM

Oh keep rubbing it in, will ya? :)

feldon34 02-06-2006 11:51 AM

Jim should just release The Animated Treasure Chest screen saver. ;)

jimkraz 02-06-2006 12:59 PM

My grandaughter though Papa had got her a new goldfish when she saw the Goldfish Bowl on Papa's screen, she thought it was real, that's good enough for me. Jim

enigma63941 02-06-2006 03:14 PM

My registration information is not in the database. I guess I'll have to wait A WHILE before I upgrade while I wait for a response from customer service. :(

Wizwad 02-06-2006 03:40 PM

Meanwhile, I'd just like to second Morgan's request for an Animated Treasure Chest screensaver!
:D:p

enigma63941 02-06-2006 03:51 PM

That better be a REALLY good treasure chest.

feldon34 02-06-2006 04:34 PM

It's truly mesmerizing. The bubbles are 100% realistic and completely different every time (random). Different sizes, shapes, 'rolling speed', etc.

enigma63941 02-06-2006 04:42 PM

"SHOW ME THE TREASURE CHEST."

feldon34 02-06-2006 04:53 PM

When Jim Sachs reads all this he's gonna PM me "Why did you have to rile them up?"

That I can vouch for, if I walk around my goldfish tank, real ones, they follow me and will stay in one corner where I am smacking the surface in an effort to get me to feed them. Works too.

Pushwall 02-06-2006 05:14 PM

We want.......

CHEST!....CHEST!....CHEST!....CHEST!....CHEST!.... CHEST!....CHEST!....CHEST!....CHEST!....CHEST!....

Eddy'sEddy 02-06-2006 08:22 PM

I like the new Art School Top View Tank with Cali as the fish. It's something I have not seen before.

Wizwad 02-07-2006 06:55 AM

Morgan's gonna be in trou-ble; Morgan's gonna be in trou-ble... :lol::lol::lol:

Well, why did ya? I'm riled up, down and every which way - and I knew and remembered what you've said about it before... :)

The main reason I didn't put a diver, a skeleton, or somesuch thing in the Goldfish Aquarium is that those toys tend to look plastic, artificial & cheap... and when I had tried to make rocks that looked deliberately plastic, artificial & cheap, nobody liked them -- not even me (I never stopped trying to make them look "better"). Remembering the old computer rule "GIGO," I've spent the last couple years shopping for the very best-looking aquarium decorations I can find (avoiding treasure chests, of course, because that's Jim's territory). I've been to every pet store in the area... as well as every pet store on Tung Choi street of Hong Kong (where over 70 aquarium stores line a 2-block stretch!) and the pickings are disappointingly slim once you weed out the plastic-looking stuff. And the treasure chests.

That was the main reason, but here's the other: Every time I see an actual goldfish aquarium that stops me dead in my tracks, makes my jaw drop, and makes me say "Wow, now THERE'S a beautiful aquarium!", there's never a cheap toy in it. It's always lushly planted, with natural-looking rocks and gravel. The goldfish are treated with dignity, as objects of beauty and grace. That's the mood I want to convey with this program.

Goldfish bowls, though, are a slightly different story... I feel that they can withstand a slightly higher threshhold of "cheesiness," which is why the waterwheel shows up in a bowl. But you'll notice that it's not a cheap-looking waterwheel; in fact, it's the best one I could find on two continents. If I ever find a "diver snatching pearl" toy I like, I may change my mind... Or if I ever do a kids' version of Goldfish Aquarium, maybe I'll put one in there.

Or if any of you happen upon a toy that looks particularly good, let me know... jot down the manufacturer's name, or take a picture of it, or both!

Simple Steve 02-07-2006 10:02 AM

I really like the pond setting. I wonder though, would it be possible to add water effects like you might see for real, to make it look even more life like? Water effects would make that scene completely realistic. Is that possible, or would that be too much for most machines?

ESHIREY 02-07-2006 11:04 AM

I fully agree with you. :TU::TU::TU::TU::TU:

enigma63941 02-07-2006 12:56 PM

Still no response from customer service..I'm dying to upgrade.
