*** Marine Aquarium for iPhone & iPad ***

Actually, Prolific and I have bigger fish to fry at the moment. We're scrambling around trying to get MA2.6 ready for the iPad deadline tomorrow.

Best of luck!

Oh, crap! -

Now I'll have to buy an iPad just so I can carry around MA, even if it is Ver 2.6.

*wonders if it will work on my iPod Touch?*

My intent in posting the "about" screen capture was to indicate the programmers, and the writer of the installer. A brief look at the Funnyfish Screen Saver is all it takes to understand that there was essentially no artistry involved - and certainly no artistic involvement by you, Jim.

In my opinion, Funnyfish is not up to "flying toasters" standards.

JohnWho - Yes, it already works well on the iPod Touch and iPhone. It's essentially the same program for the iPad, with the same resolution as the iPhone. Our guys (Order N Develolpment in Texas) can only run it on the emulator, since no one has an iPad yet. Once we can see it in the native environment, I'm hoping we can bring the resolution up to iPad capabilities. But at least we have a good shot at being one of the apps available at launch. I just re-did all the fish icons in the Fish Chooser interface, and they look good on the tiny iPhone screen.

Edit: the iPad version of Marine Aquarium runs at full 1024 x 768 resolution.

Thanks for that reply, Jim.

I can't seem to find it in the iTunes App store though.

How does one obtain a copy for their iPod Touch? Does it help if they already have a licensed copy?

Jim Sachs 03-26-2010 08:21 PM

It's not available to the public yet. Your iPhone's ID number has to be embedded into the build in order for it to show up. We're taking over the "Aquarium" name and icon from the version which was done by Arktis, our German distributer. They simply captured an MPEG movie of MA2.6 (and now MA3), then packaged it for iPhone download. The problem is that it's a HUGE download, and is a canned sequence. The version we just finished is a real 3D program which allows you to choose the fish, set the lights, etc.

JohnWho 03-26-2010 08:34 PM

OK - in that case I'll watch for it to show up in iTunes Store.

Wish you the best with it.

Looks like we got everything in before the deadline. Now we're waiting to hear if Apple accepts it.

I would love to get an iPhone version!

That would be amazing!

Dathomir 04-01-2010 10:01 AM

My iPhone is eagerly awaiting the aquariums arrival!

feldon34 04-01-2010 09:08 PM

Marine Aquarium 2.6 is now available on the iPhone/iPad App Store.

Purchased as soon as I heard! Nice!

Beautiful! I just installed it, and it looks great on my i pod touch! Can't wait to get an ipad to see how it looks!:TU:

The current problem with the iPad is that it runs iPhone apps at iPhone resolution. The screen is much bigger, but it just stretches the image to fill it.

Edit: the iPad version of Marine Aquarium runs at full 1024 x 768 resolution.

Somehow I don't think I will be an iPad customer. Nothing personal it's just not my lifestyle. But I would be interested to know the relative screen sizes and resolutions. First time I saw MA2.6 it was on a 17" 1024x768 monitor and it just looked gorgeous.

The iPhone and iPod Touch are specified at 320 x 480
The iPad is specified at 768 x 1024. 9.7 inch diagonal measurement.

Jim Sachs 04-04-2010 06:29 PM

Correct. By the way, 1024x768 is the MA2.6 native res on the PC and Mac, so it may be possible to get it to run in that res on the iPad.

So, you're getting effectively (approximately) 60 pixels per inch on the iPad.

And 768/320 = 2.4 (and 2.133 in the other direction), so whatever the "stretch" algorithm is, there are probably artifacts and/or distortions.

Jim Sachs 04-04-2010 07:30 PM

Nope, no artifacts.
