Black Moors

Hi Guys

I bought 3 Black moors about 6 months ago, just curious is it normal for them to change colour?
1 of them is still black, but the other 2 have orange and silver, and just a little bit of black on them now.?

Yes, a lot of the black goldfish change to gold over time.

But I have also been told recently ( today in fact ) that some, not all black moors change colour as they mature, and it is very rare for black moors to stay black past maturity, yet all 3 of my black moors have been in the tank for the same ammount of time, yet only two have changed colour, and they have all matured , as they all have the mature spots near their tails...

But even so I am not in the least bit complaining because they look terrific with the way their colours have gone...

I have two that are still blacxk and they are way beyond full maturity. I had a couple of pandas however that both turned almost solid white within 1 year. I think genetics plays a big part in their ability to hold their black coloring.

Black moors, as a rule do not change color, a bad lot that should have been culled to keep the species pure, will go copper, not orange. There are other moors that are not black moors, they are call 'moors' because of the pop eyes, or telescope eyes. So what you have is a different species of moors. :)

By the way, a great deal of the time any very young goldfish, can go black or have black fins, but as they mature they develop their true colors, be it orange or calio and so on.

Marian? you say that they should be culled, how can anyone tell if they are going to change colour?
All 3 of mine were pure black when I got themand only in the past 2-3 month s have the two changed colour the other is still black..

I am as perplex as you are on that one, I found this information in my Goldfish Handbook. Maybe we should search the web and maybe find up to date answers to this question.
