They're doing 7,000 people a day. That's 1 download of MA2 every 12 seconds.

And that's in addition to the 12,000 downloads of the Aquarium casual visitors do every day!

EddieWan 03-19-2003 06:25 PM

good grief that's a lot of downloads!

Jav400 03-19-2003 06:49 PM

Prolific has reported that so far today they have had ~33,000 downloads. Slightly more than an average day. :)

Jim Sachs 03-19-2003 06:49 PM

32,000 so far today.

Anyone else notice that versions 1.1 and 2.0 can run at the same time each in their own window? Looks great with a separate aquarium on each of 2 monitors (I think maybe even better than one aquarium would spread over 2 monitors!).

The refresh limit works amazingly well to reduce CPU usage on a Geforce 3 1GHz Pentium (less than 5% at 1024x768).

Great job!

Not for me...... With the wide version anyway I get an error box "No Primary, switching to software rastirizer" With the MAT I get the same box but with "This sample will now exit". I do not have 1.1 installed at the moment so can not test for that one.

hi all. i haven't posted here in a while but i just had to stop by after receiving the new free upgrade and say:

o thanks Jim for all of your hard work in making SSA a reality,
o thanks Morgan and Michael for keeping this forum alive and useful,
o thanks Jim for loosening the reins a bit so that Prolific could make this update while you continue on with your other work,
o thanks Prolific for the technical and visual enhancements to 2.0.

and especially thank you for the free upgrades we've received so far. please continue to work on new products Jim so that we may continue to support your dream while you give us such life-like visuals in return.

Just got my notification yesterday, and downloaded and installed MA2 without a hitch. Running silky smooth with my ancient Radeon 7200 with 32mb @ 85fps. Very pleased with the new fish additions and I also like the descriptions, very informative. All-in-all a nice upgrade, kudos to all of the folks that worked on this and I look forward to future upgrades.

You're welcome

Thanks for the positive feedback. We are really working our butts off to really make this a living product series. To make that happen we have to do a lot of foundational work that most people can’t see.

Sachs is an intricate craftsmen, and we will be the first to admit that we are more like general contractors. But we work well together, there is a lot of history, and a lot of trust.

The key is that we want to make this work, the team is very patient with each other, and we love what we do.

Reichart's Pic....

Reichart, just had to ask.....What's with the evil looking avitar? ;)

Just kidding.....:p

feldon34 03-20-2003 12:14 AM

His doesn't look evil to me. But yours... :)

Reichart 03-20-2003 12:14 AM

Evil

That is my "good" side...

Jim Sachs 03-20-2003 12:38 AM

If you were to see Reichart on the street, you would never recognize him from that picture.

At least that is his hope....

Pyros9 03-20-2003 12:45 AM

Does he have hair now?

Misc

Is it just me, or do the eyes on Reichart's Avatar follow you as you move around?

For any geeks out there... Don't look around I KNOW you are here. I just compiled the web logs files for our download server. We did 43,536,008K in downloads yesterday. That is roughly 4X our normal daily volume.

Keep in mind, this is not web art, or html. This is PURE product download.

The web server itself did another 9,933,796K in web files and art.

:TU: What a nice and unexpected gift! :) It's so cool this new version!

For me it takes a while to start up (3 secs; I have WinXP Home SP1, AMD XP2000+, GeForce3Ti200 -41.09 Det-, 384 MB DDR RAM), but runs smoother than 1.1, and uses less CPU :)

Wizwad 03-20-2003 05:14 AM

I installed the saver on a PC at work yesterday (it's coming off again in a few days, but I couldn't wait 'til I got home to have a first look :)) and it's garnering a tremendous amount of attention.

It's running on a 3D Rage Pro with 4MB video memory, so I can only run 2 fish before the quality and speed drops off too much, but everyone in the office has been asking me where it came from the moment they catch sight of it! I've been frantically directing them to SereneScreen.com after demonstrating the fish, the wireframe, the lighting, the movement, etc., and they're overcome with it's realism!

When I tell them how much better it all looks on a more modern graphics card with more video memory their eyes go wide and round! :D

I feel I'm finally doing my bit to help Jim with his film. :)

Quick Death 03-20-2003 09:08 AM

Jim -- in 1.1.x the screen saver ran and if I got an IM the SS continued to run. in 2.x the SS gets minimized to the taskbar. I like the old way better.

Oh well...

what is ctrl-s and what is it suppose to do? I don't see any change when I press that combination.

IXNAY 03-20-2003 09:18 AM

Cool news :D the new fish look great :)

Steven J Lowe 03-20-2003 10:12 AM
