Drawing fish?

I am curious. Jim, do you draw the fish from scratch or do
you use a photograph and work from there? That goldfish
looks and moves so real that I believe I am looking at a
video of the real thing. In Simaquarium the fish don't move
at all realistic.

Thanks

I usually use photographs. I didn't do the goldfish tank, though. That was a friend who I can't name.

What has been the hardest fish that you have done for the aquarium and was has been the easiest?

Jim Sachs 09-23-2003 05:29 PM

Lionfish was the hardest. The others are all about the same, taking 1 day each.

lionfish

Lionfish look like they would be hard. >_< (PS: I love Calvin & Hobbs!! *thumbs up*)

Any advice you can give an artist like me,
who is starting to learn 3d modeling? By
advice I mean what books or other info
that will help me using DirectX, and do you
use Directx?

Thanks

A little nip, a little tuck, a little pull, a little stretch, and one fish becomes another. :)

Submariner -

Yes, I write the program using DirectX, but I create the models in Lightwave.

Is lightwave compatible to 3D Studio Max?

feldon34 10-08-2003 10:41 AM

I think there are some import/export scripts to go between the 2 programs.

Lightwave was created for artists who want to create organic shapes.

3D Studio Max is an architecture package which has been tweaked to handle 3D animation.

Many productions involve creating the 3D artwork in Lightwave and animating/staging it in 3D Studio Max. Few, if any, people try to create realistic organic models in 3DSMax. If they really need 1 program for everything, they'll get Maya instead.
