When I have obscure problems under Win2k that seem intractable, I run 'SFC /scannow' from a shell window. It will repair any damaged drivers. Plan on OS and SP CD swapping for about 1.5 hours...

Renaming devldr32.exe seems to have no effect on the functionality of AIW TV, CD player, Real player, TDS-3 speech synthesis; all the sound-related programs I could think of to test at the moment.
