I am sure sorting this out will not be too hard now that you have pointed out the circumstances.
In the meantime, you can change all the tanks, but return to the settings page, and make sure that the last tank you changed is selected when pressing
Or to keep things simple just set all your tank preferences before you run the screensaver (in display properties - screensaver - settings). That is what I usually do and why I never noticed this bug.
