Beta 9J

Hi!

In Beta9J I get the default crystal, even though the list only says the altlogo.

If I have first the altlogo and then the default logo in the list, the default is the one showing first.

The only way I can get rid of the default is to have both in the list and set the default to 0 seconds.

Clicking the MA3 Logo button adds "SSLogo256.png, 10" to the list.
If the list is empty, it creates that same entry.
Highlight it and click Remove, add yer own logo(s) and they will be
the only ones that show then (at least on my copy).
Isn't that how it should work?

Edit: the only thing I just found is when you restart it, the default
logo is shown for a 1 second first before your custom one(s) start.
But I'm pretty sure that is normal behavior.

That's close enough to the intended behavior to get by for now.

Strange problem (can someone else duplicate it?)

Installed version, with Beta9J renamed to MarineAquarium3.scr and placed in \windows\system32

MA3 does NOT exhibit the problem below when started by clicking on the desktop icon, nor when started automatically as screensaver.

To duplicate the problem:
Right-click on the desktop
Select Properties (bringing up the Display Properties dialog box).
Select the Screen Saver Tab
Click on Settings
Click on Clock and Logo (it is not necessary to make any change here)
Click on OK
Problem: [MarineAquarium3 Beta9 has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.]

This only happens when the OK button is clicked - and does NOT happen if the Cancel button is clicked.

Of course, needs confirmation - this obscure problem might just be on my computer. WXP Pro. (I haven't had a chance to test this on Vista or W7)

I encountered this on my Vista but only when I first install the file and hit settings, when the screensaver runs after that it works fine.

Confirmed as completely repeatable, every time, on a different system from original report, running Vista 32, and also running Windows 7.

I just did that and got the same results with Vista,I had never tryed that before just waited untill the screensaver came on and hit the space bar,I know it happens when I first plant the file in system32 and right click and hit install.

Well, of course the actual sequence, as well as the "stopped working" message, are slightly different on Vista and Windows 7.

We are supposed to find the obscure bugs, aren't we?

Good bug, and excellent reporting!

OK, the cause of this one is the fact that the sound system never gets created when using the Settings mode without actually launching the program. There are some instances when opening and closing interfaces that the program was trying to send messages to the non-existant music system. Try Beta9k - http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip

Looks good to me.

Who would have thought that somebody would do that?

As long as a bug is clearly defined, and the steps to reproduce it are listed, I can usually make short work of it. The critical thing is being able to reproduce it while the debugger is running.

Actually, as you pointed out, the critical thing is a complete description of exactly how to reliably reproduce the problem.

1. The exact environment - installed? where is the .scr file? Version(s) of windows, etc.

2. ALL the steps in reproducing it. And capable of reproducing it multiple times.

Something like: "downloaded the Beta and my music list is empty" or "I did almost the same thing as you said, but it works differently"..... just wastes effort.
