What is the latest beta build number?

Hi Guys,
What is the latest beta build number and where can I download it from. Most of the links that I have don't seem to work.

Thanks

Ray

Right now the one from http://www.serenescreen.com/ has been updated to the latest version available matching Jim's last Beta Beta version. Until Jim gets it worked out how he wants to redo the fish, there isn't anything later, so there is no need to have the same version at 14 different places.

Until a new Beta Beta is released - that one will be the latest, and only version available.

Besides the fact that clicking on "beta" download links not working? as in http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip... ?
I know we have covered all this in the past.. but the links to past and outdated betas should not give an error... possibly they should be removed as in pages 1...and part of page 2 up to post #34 (I think)

It shouldn't be too confusing: if there is a "Beta-Beta" available, it will be at that address. If there is nothing there, then the official version is the very latest one.

Folks refusing to read the FIRST post of this thread whenever they want to find if they have the latest version and download it is almost approaching beligerancy.
  • I've gone out of my way to remove Download links from the announcements thread to avoid confusion.
  • I've gone out of my way to ask everyone to subscribe to the MA3 NEWS & DOWNLOAD thread so they always have access to the download link.

What do I need to do? Do I need to ask Jim to NOT post any download links for the Aquarium, but instead contact me and I will be the only one who can post download links?

I can promise you that the download link will NOT always be:
http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip

I'm getting tired of this.

I don't have any problems finding the latest beta, (if one is available), nor the latest official version.

I post updates as soon as they are ready - often about 2 a.m. Waking Morgan up to post a download link would be rather rude, so I have always (and will continue to) put each update at http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip.

But there isn't always something to download there.

There isn't anything there right now.

That means that there isn't a new one available. (At the moment). - The last available beta, (10d), has now expired.

The latest official version is also currently 10d..... So they can download the official version from SereneScreen.

Exactly. If there's an update available, it will be there. If not, there will be nothing there.

For some folks, that is apparently 1 download link too many.

I wonder if there's any way to redirect the link to SereneScreen?

I'm thinking and hoping for a beta version 10e that would put to rest the question of Where Is The Beta? Then again... LOL Can't wait to see the revamped fish.

For what it's worth, I think it's a mistake to directly link to the .zip file itself. If I were in your shoes, I'd simply build two simple "template" pages. One that contains a link to the .zip file and one that simply says that there are no beta-betas currently in use and referring to the download from Serene Screen with an appropriate link. Give both template files the same name (e.g. currentbeta.html) and store them locally in two separate directories (e.g. "/activebeta" and "/inactivebeta").

Once that is done, when it comes time to put a new beta-beta up for download, you simply upload the new zip file and "/activebeta" version to your web site, then make an announcement with a link to http://www.fish-byte.com/currentbeta.html instead of the .zip file. When the beta has expired and you want to refer people to the Serene Screen version, simply upload the ".inactivebeta" version of currentbeta.html to the web site.

Makes it pretty simple from your perspective. When you want to publish a new beta, you simply upload two files instead of the one file you currently upload. When the current beta expires and it will be a while before the next is available, simply upload one file. That way you avoid broken link questions/problems.

You can create a file named download.php with these contents:

PHP Code:
<?php
$beta
TRUE;
if (
$beta === TRUE) { header("Location: http://www.fish-byte.com/MA3Beta.zip"); }
if (
$beta === FALSE) { header("Location: https://prolific.s3.amazonaws.com/MarineAquarium3/Windows/MarineAquarium3.exe"); }
exit;
?>
Set $beta = TRUE if you want people to download from Fish-Byte.com.
Set $beta = FALSE if you want people to download it from SereneScreen.

Then no matter what, if they visit http://www.fish-byte.com/download.php, they'll get redirected to download the correct file.
