Annoying buzzing sound

I was using version Marine Aquarium 2.6 for Mac OS for several years and it worked fine. Just updated to version 3 - and I get an annoying buzzing sound when the screen saver is activated. Bubbles not selected as I prefer it quiet! This is the same problem on a PB and an iMac running Mac OS 10.6.2

If this is not solved then it is too annoying for me to use - please fix it.

For now, can you disable all sound from MA3?

In the Sound panel in the preferences, do you have Bubbles and iTunes both off? If you do, we shouldn't be trying to play any sound. Do you gave the frame rate limited (Settings panel)? If not, could the buzzing sound be from the fans on your system?

Thanks for re-directing this to the correct thread.

In my settings I have all sounds (both bubbles and iTunes off) frame rate settings also off.

The noise is far louder when I use open the MA3 as a programme rather than as a screen saver. The strange thing is that as soon as I click on MA3 - to change any of the preferences - the buzzing stops immediately! This applies to both MB and iMac. It is a s though there is some 'feedback loop' somewhere - but, I have no idea how or where!

Is there anything else I can try??????

Hi Alanallos,

Turn the limit frame rate setting ON. Set it to 30 fps or something sensible.

We may need to get a system profiler report from you as this is (so far) unique.

Thanks. I have only just seen your suggestion. I have done this - and it has worked! Buzzing now very much fainter. Still just audible - but not annoying. Thanks.

What do you require re system profile? Are these the details you need?

Can you describe the hardware set-up and sound output preferences for your system(s)? Anything different than playing sound through the internal speakers? Shouldn't make a difference in functionality, but any difference might help us reproduce and track down the problem.

Also, a system profile would be helpful. To generate one, select the About This Mac menu item under the Apple menu, and click on the More Info... button to launch System Profiler. Choose File > Save..., and save the file to a known location. Compress/zip the file and e-mail it to me (mbabinATorderndevDOTcom, substitute @ for AT and . for DOT).

Hi Michael, I am using Yamaha Powered Multimedia speakers YST MS50 - connected to built-in, sound out. They are old - but still sound fine with my iTunes! Will send the profiles via email. Thanks Alan
