Happy Anniversary, Marine Aquarium 3D Simulation

It occurred to me that we've been spending virtually all of our recent efforts commenting on, fine-tuning, and trying to document stuff that is not really related to the absolutely fantastic Marine Aquarium 3D Simulation.

Early timeline of "released" versions: (if I've got this wrong, somebody please let me know)

8k -- 1/30/2009
9b -- 2/17/2009
10a -- 5/12/2009
10d -- 6/5/2009

Please join me at 6:51 PM (your local time) today (6/5/2010) , in celebrating the anniversary of the release of the first "really stable version" of the world's most realistic 3D Marine Aquarium Simulation .

... and in thanking Jim Sachs for letting us share the aquarium, and share the experience.

I use international dates because Windows sorts them properly. Also, this way the date format matches the time format, from most significant to least significant. YYYY.MM.DD HH:MM:SS.

Ahem. Anyway. On our computers at work, we somehow end up with the 'American' date format of YYYYDDMM. Now that really cheeses me off - neither one thing nor another!

I expect that this is a "Windows" thing and with typical Microsoft arrogance they would not consider any local customs / protocol.

Windows follows local date format in any country you use it in. Microsoft actually spends a lot of time making sure Windows works in over 100 countries.

It's easy enough to test for yourself. In Windows XP, go to Control Panels -> Regional and Language Options. The first tab gives you about 100 choices for how currency, time, short date, and long date should be presented. You can do manual entry or pick from 100+ presets.

If you want to change the language of Windows, you'll need your original CD or to download the files from their website.

I use international date format of YYYY.MM.DD because if you use it in part of a filename, it will sort properly.

Sorts properly in my sys the other way too, and after seeing that way for 42 years of computing now, very used to it.

You are telling me you can rename these two folders:

2002.04.08 Wedding Photos
2007.07.04 4th of July Pictures
2009.01.26 Trip to Glacier National Park

to this:

04-08-2002 Wedding Photos
07-04-2007 4th of July Pictures
01-26-2009 Trip to Glacier National Park

and your computer sorts them properly?

On mine, if I did that, it would sort like this:

01-26-2009 Trip to Glacier National Park
04-08-2002 Wedding Photos
07-04-2007 4th of July Pictures
