Jim, I'm guessing you are using the PlaySound() function found in WinMM.dll?
spetro, One suggestion I found is to go to your sound card/device (possibly through Volume control panel), go to Advanced, and choose Restore Defaults. And if you have not already done so, try reinstalling your sound drivers.

Thanks for the help. Sound is not the problem. I hear bubbles and guitar tune just fine. Problem seems to be that ma3 does not recognize the file I load into if from media center. . Let me ask this. I have both ma3 and 3.1 on my system. Will having both create a conflict?
My drivers are up to date. |

So you cannot even add the mp3 file to the list? Or you can add it, but it won't play? Sorry I have not kept up with the thread.
If you can't even add the song to the list, then I suspect the format, or there's a permissions issue with the Aquarium unable to write the playlist file. If you can add the song, but it won't play, then I point back to the possibility that the functions the Aquarium is using to play the song aren't working because of a hiccup in your sound card drivers or DLL files.

I can add it and it won't play but when I go back to see if its still there...its gone(intermittently). I also think (but I might be wrong) is that there may be a conflict with the two programs on the same system. Again W764 does strange things. I've been able to fix all the hardware/software issues on my own except for this one. Again this is not a big deal for me. Just figured we hash it out here for others

Are you using multiple user accounts?
The file that contains the list of music to be played is C:\Users\YOURUSERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Marine Aquarium 3\MA3Playlist.lst You probably knew that already. You could try deleting it, and then when you run MA3.1, it will be recreated. Then add some songs. You might copy it here, and we might spot something wrong. |

EDIT>>>>> OK..... Every tune I was attempting to play was MP3 like C:\Users\my name\Music\My Music\Frank Zappa\Apostrophe.mp3 I found a tune that was .wma and it worked. So for whatever reason my ma3 does not like mp3, but does like .wma I also found that using wma. files, that those files remain in my play list and are not disappearing like the mp3's did. On another note I quarantined 3.1 to a removable thumb drive. pulled the drive out and I was able to get the results listed above. Don't know why my ma3 doesn't like mp3's....but we're getting somewhere. Also I'm not sure the quarantine really did anything, just wanted to isolate the programs. I think I'm becoming more geekish!! Quarantining versions of the Aquarium from each other is done by deleting the folder Dale listed, as well as running the SachsRemove registry file.

If it plays WMA, then the problem is probably not what I thought it was. WMA is a Microsoft format, while MP3 is a general-purpose MPEG format. Could still be a missing driver, though.

I guess that if you point out that you are already using MA 3.1 (a free upgrade),
they might answer further? I'm curious - are the WMA files that do play in the same folder/directory as the MP3s that do not play? I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!

I copy and pasted my quotes from here in my email to them. Again...this is not a big deal to me. I was asked to post their response. Jim might have it right....I have a lost driver or something. I'll dump the whole program and start fresh on the release. If there is still an issue after that then..... plan "b" whatever that is
Yes the WMA files are in the same folder via media player/my music |

spetro,
Which version are you contacting SereneScreen about? Marine Aquarium 3.0, Marine Aquarium 3 Beta, or Marine Aquarium 3.1?

spetro's post in this thread, #49 states:
Ok...I tried all the suggestions here using 3.1 W7 64 bit.
I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!
