Panning Problem
Hey guys, this is Josh with tech support over at Prolific. I've run into a problem I've not encountered before with a PC version of 3.1. Customer says the the Pan function will not work on his comp. Had him check the settings, and his video card driver seems fine. You guys ever hear of this problem?

What is the resolution setting of his monitor?
I know you think you understand what you thought I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant!

Currently awaiting a DXDiag report from him, at which point I should have more information.

Not sure if anyone here is qualified to read a DXDiag report.
There are really only two possible reasons why it wouldn't pan: 1. Panning isn't turned on (the P key). 2. The scene is already spread out so wide that the whole background is showing, and there is nothing left to pan (spanning across more than one monitor)

And, just possibly, they need to re-install the latest version of DirectX.

I don't see how the version of DirectX would have any effect unless the scene is completely frozen. If the fish are moving, the background should be able to move, too.

Is it possible perhaps this could be another multiple monitor problem something like this one....
https://www.feldoncentral.com/forums...99&#post107999 (Though in that case it was the fish that didn't move, but the background did!) |

No, that was an actual bug, which I fixed long ago.

Whatever it is, I agree with Mark.... It's always worth trying a re-install of DirectX.
I never fail to be amazed at the effect re-installing DirectX can have after experiencing visual problems. Though trying to solve any problem when you aren't given any details, is a thankless and pointless exercise! |
