Big Grin SereneScreen v1.1 problem -- please help

I just downloaded the SereneScreen Aquarium v1.1. I have NOT registered yet since it is giving me problem.

The demo version works fine on my notebook computer (Compaq notebook w/ Windows XP).

However, the bubble column, only 3 or 4 bubbles come up at a time and there are 4 streaks of line going up from the coral. These streaks look like glass. I don't think it is supposed to be like that by looking at the screen captures of v1.1....

I tried to change resolutions, set my resolution to 16 bits and 32 bits etc..nothing helped. I found out about SereneScreen by following the link from the old beta version of it...The beta version works perfectly fine....I see the whole column of bubbles coming up. What is going on with v1.1 ??? Is it hardware/software problem here??? Please help.

Here is the link to a screen capture of it...very obvious that the bubble column is not working right.

hmm.
Mine, I set it at 8mb of video RAM. Is that not enough? How much do I need?? I guess I'm out of luck since this is a laptop so I can't change the video card

If it shares system RAM, try giving it 12 or 16 megs.

I don't think it shares RAM. The max it let me select is 8mb. 8MB is a lot for a screen saver though....is it a bug in this new version? I'm just curious.

It is a bit strange. 99L worked great on 4MB. Now 1.1 has trouble with 8MB. And it always comes down to the bubble column. I wonder if there is a memory hole somewhere.

I know the Aquarium code is already very efficient, but this just seems strange.

We have seen the same problem on some of the systems at our store. We installed the .99 versions on a system with integrated video (sharing 8mb system RAM) and it works fine. Version 1.1 on the same system won't display the bubbles properly. I even tried using the aquarium with no fish on the screen, but it didn't help.

Now I just don't display the aquarium using that type of system.

Being the last thing that gets drawn, the bubble column would be the first place that out-of-memory anomolies would show up. You could try using a lower resolution.

As far as using a lot of memory for a screensaver, remember that this is not a screensaver -- it's a pedal-to-the-metal Direct3D application that can be used as a screensaver. I made every effort to conserve memory. The meshes and textures are highly compressed, and remain that way in memory, unless you press ctrl-t to uncompress them.

The v1.10.116 beta (of January 16th) didn't have this problem (albeit there were other stuff for Mr. Sachs to sort out of course). To the best of my knowledge it appeared the first time in the v1.10.208 beta (of February 8th).

Still not sure the question has been answered.
Why didn't it happen on previous versions? Why can't 1.1 be fixed to work like earlier versions? I also have the bubble problem since 1.1. I never had it with any of the other versions. I'm using an 8meg Millenium G200

With the Lionfish, etc., the 1.1 version simply uses more memory than the old version. Remember the poll when all of you voted overwhelmingly that I continue to add to the Aquarium even though it would mean more powerful systems would be required? Well, welcome to the future.

Jim that was quick! Thanks for that. Just wanted to know the answer. I knew the mention of a more powerful machine would be mentioned as soon as I mentioned an 8meg GFX card. And I forgot about that all and powerful Lion Fish. I would rather keep the Lion Fish, then have the bubble column, if I have to make a choice, which I have. So until I get a better GFX card the bubble column will have to stay switched off.

feldon23,
Not my creation. I found it somewhere, hoping one day to be able to put it to some use. Within the last two three years I've become a dad of two and remember them trying simular stunts whilst growing up. If he/she doesn't stop that soon he/she will end up with a very sore neck!
BTW feldon23, any idea how I can change the text (Yellow Tang) underneath my handle to something more suitable? I can't see anyway from within the prefs settings...

The text "Yellow Tang" under your name is representative of the posts you have made and isn't changeable for users. 0-50 posts is Yellow Tang, 50-100 is Regal Tang, 100-250 is Regal Angel, 250-500 is Percula Clown, and over 500 is Lionfish.
