Dangerous terriory here. I'll let Windows handle the Standby issue, and Microsoft handle the lawsuits from customers whose machines go into standby just when they are making that last calculation to solve the riddle of the Universe. (The answer is 42, if I remember correctly)

42.1 to be specific.

/Tiny Decimal
Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent.
I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says,
'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.'
I suppose we all thought that, one way or another.

Oh come on, it was never that easy. The only point to the answer was to keep theologians employed in exploring the question.

But I understand your point Jim.

Thanks Laser, it did not work. However, I have found a cool utility that I can use to schedule a forced Standby. It is called PowerOff...

I am testing right now, but so far so good!

Stay tuned.

For everyone jumping into DirectX 9, make sure all your games/software supports it.

The utility PowerOff does exactly what I want it to do. Unfortuanately, after coming back on, my Jukebox program is in the background and I cannot get it to come back forward using the keypad. There's always something!

Monitor & Standby bug, and 1.1.7.

The FACT that DirectX 9 is fixing the Monitor issue is the proof that it is NOT our fault. I have spoken to several OTHER people that do ScreenSaver and ScreenSaver-like programs, ad they get almost exactly the same amount of feedback that it fails as we do.

We are often put into the position of defending that we have written the program correctly, but sometimes in Microsoft products, there is a catch-22. We can work around their code, and then when they fix it, it breaks what we did to work around it. I’m ultra conservative on fixes. If 95% of people don’t see the bug, then you have to show me a REALLY good reason for me to warrant fixing another companies bug in our code.

In my own tests, some computers in our office work correctly with the monitor, and some don’t. My own portable works 50% of the time with MA (Marine Aquarium), or any one of the other 20 Screen Saver products I keep on my machine from other companies. Pisses me off too. But it is not our (ever developers) fault. It is 100% Microsoft. I cannot seem to lock in on why my computer will correct turn the monitor off, or go into standby, and other days, or even the same day, won’t!

As to 1.1.7. ..

This is not a secret. Simply, we play with small upgrades and changes. If EVERYONE downloads it, and it does not work for you, then you get upset. Which is silly. So instead, we pick a select group. Let them play with it. And then grow the people that have access to it until we think it is stable, and then we release to all. Most people should not even worry about an update that affects just the revision number (Version.revision.minor-revision).

Currently, we made some changes, it has worked for many, but not for all, and then our lead programmer on that project got pulled onto another project we are doing. He will be return to improve 1.1.7 again in about a week.

No Flames

No flaming here, it is a great product, and I understand the Catch-22s going on. My initial post was not a criticism, but an observation. I have since found a workaround (see my previous post) that gave me a new problem, yet I think I have found a cure for it as well.

Just do what you can and just focus on what you see as the most critical. Keep it fun and don't sweat the nitpickers.
