Norton Antivirus is to blame.
Any graphically intense screen saver will be similarly "paused" by Norton. ![]()

Morgan,
Does that happen with any other AVs? Like Grisoft (AVG)?

No. It does not happen with McAfee or AVG.

nautika,
I don't know if Norton has this feature, but with McAfee I can disable it if I want to. If you're not online, there's no reason to be running your virus protection (OK, somebody correct me if I'm wrong here), so just disable it before launching MA. Just be sure to enable it before connecting to the internet! |

I do agree with kyltun about disables it if you are not online or opening email, but personally I would get rid of Norton. it has always cause trouble with loads of different programs, and I am speaking from experience. You couldn't give Norton to me.

Hmmm... I guess maybe I'll give McAfee a try..
I don't like the idea of having to "disable" it everytime I'm done using the computer though.. |

I have McAfee, and it has never caused any problem with the MA or GA. I run them while I'm online, doing downloads, listening to CDs. I would recommend McAfee with no reservations. Updates are automatic, they download when you go online, there is a box that pops up letting you know it has downloaded, and that's all there is to it. However, I would say that all you really need is McAfee Virus Scan Online and McAfee Firewall. The McAfee Security Service seems kind of useless to me. I've let mine lapse, and kept the other two. If you have kids, and don't want them to be able to view certain websites, then perhaps McAfee Security would be for you, though you could probably do the same thing by configuring their access to the web through your operating system.

K guys I've uninstalled norton, installed McAfee.. The pauses didn't happen anymore BUT it wasn't as smooth as when I had Norton (minus the pauses)! So then..... I tried PC-cillin 2003 and now it's quite flawless!

Hope you get it worked out . ![]()

I don't believe that in cases like this it is ever *just* Norton, or anything else. There are too many components working together in your computer. A chain is only as strong as the weakest link, and its usually some combination of things that produce these results.
