Conflict with LapLink Gold 11.x
Perhaps the following will help some other users.
I found that LapLink Gold v11.3 caused directdraw and agp texture acceleration to be disabled when running dxdiag under windows xp. If you have this program running in the background it may interfere with your 3d video card performance. Laplink Gold running=Marine Aquarium 2.0 at 6fps (software 1024x768 16bit) Laplink Gold not running=Marine Aquarium 2.0 at 100fps(hardware 1024x768 32bit) (the refresh rate on my system at 1024x768, 32bit is 100 Hz) My system: P4 2.4 Gigabyte/Intel 875P chipset 8X AGP Radeon 9700 Pro 128mb My other system: P4 2.4 Shuttle/Sis 651 chipset 4X AGP Radeon 9600XT 128mb It took me many hours to identify this problem. Hopefully, you can save some time if your using Laplink and Marine Aquarium 2.0 (or any other 3d application) Thanks, Stan |

Microsoft NetMeeting does the same thing, with the added bonus of magically turning on file sharing on all your hard drives without permission.
