Morgan,
That Square Spot looks alot more real to me. For one thing, the spot isn't an exact square. I like your new avatar also. You too Jim. |

Wow! That is a really beautiful fish! I see now why it was picked for entry into MA2. It's just a shame that the end product didn't come close to that picture. You take as long as you need to get it perfect Jim! And if the same is true of the other 4 fish then the update is going to be breathtaking. I can hardly sit still for anticipation!

I'm heading down to Pasadena today to try and find an aquarium store with a squarespot. The plan is to buy it, photograph it, then donate it back to the store, all without the fish being any the wiser that its ownership changed for a few minutes. I find that stores are much more likely to let me photograph the fish when I own it.

Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." /Robert Oppenheimer on witnessing the first thermonuclear detonation in history. |

Where do you photograph it at? If you bring it home and place it in your tank, they probably start over and quarantine it for awhile if they take it back and they are a good dealer.

Since he has a freshwater tank, it wouldn't live long.
I'd imagine he's going to pay for it and photograph it on the spot. Jim just needs to work out fish rental fees with these places.

The trip was a bust. No good fish at all.
Jav - I just photograph the fish where it is. As I said, the fish is never any the wiser that its ownership has changed for a few minutes. Hi-res video is best, 'cause you're more likely to get just the right angle eventually. Resolution is no problem if you're zoomed in. Digital video is 720x480, and the texture will only be 128x128 anyway. Trouble is, these 5 fish are VERY rare, at least in Southern California. Squarespot is the most likely to be found, Red-fin would be impossible. I did see a squarespot at a new store in Riverside, but it was rather scroungy. Morgan re: fish rental - the money is not the problem, I'll gladly pay $50 to be able to photograph a good-looking specimen under the right lighting conditions.
