It's almost a month since someone asked, so I think it's my turn: "Jim, can you tell us about the progress the last month?"

Our house sold and I've got less than 3 weeks to get 34 years worth of stuff from Southern California to Oregon. It's a 1500-mile round-trip, and I've got to make the drive in my truck every couple of days. This has put a slight crimp in my ability to work on the program, but I do think about it while driving!

I have an idea: What if you used a bigger truck - wouldn't that mean you didn't have to take as many trips?

That puppy loads 400 metric tonnes, but if you settle for a mere 290 tonnes, the Liebherr TI 274 can do 40 mph...

I have a 10 x 10 storage unit to move from Michigan to Houston and I am looking at moving companies. I hope Jim is not seriously considering moving an entire house from California to Oregon in a pickup truck.

Have you priced U-Haul trucks one-way lately? A friend rented one last year to move from California to Texas, and he could have BOUGHT a pretty good truck for the same price. That van only held about twice as much as my pickup. The sign on the side said "Rent Me For $19.95 Per Day", but that's just a come-on. The killer is the per-mile charge. My big Dodge diesel can make the round trip for about $220. It takes me a full day to load up my truck, so it would take several days to load a van. One day of carrying furniture down those narrow, twisty staircases is about all my old back can handle at a time, so the pickup works out well.
