Yes, we all agree. It seems the thread was hijack there for a minute. But we’re back on topic now. But it is so nice to hear from the creators of the software that we really love. Puts a face to a name, and humanize the product. A few years ago, a SS was just that, but now they are entertainment in and of themselves.

And it also shows Eric that as long as the product is good (and I think we're all agreed that it is ) then he can ryte pritti mutch wot hee lykz.

Wishes:
* specular lighting
* fully 3-D environment so the fish can interact with it more (nibble on the rocks for example)
* another type of comet that looks more like the type you used to be able to get at fun fairs (until they died a few days later, but I hope you know what I mean)
*lillies and ripples in the Pond tank
That'll do for now.

Eric - Welcome from me too, and have at it!
Mark

Marian, I knew who you meant... You probably saw "edaniels" and figured it meant "Ed Aniels." Easy mistake. I actually get emails meant for somebody named "Ed Daniels" all the time.

The login name comes from a guy at work, who, during the whole eMac, eBay, eCommerce, eThis and eThat phase, started calling me "e Daniels dot com" as a joke. I tried to register that domain name just for fun, and discovered that someone had beaten me to it. Oh well...

Mark/Wizwad: Yes, I know the little goldfish you speak of. In fact, "Freida" is an attempt at one of them They swim so differently than the big fancy ones, though, that I might have to create a whole new swimming algorithm to really get her right. Her name, by the way, is a play on what those fish are usually called: "feeders."

Marian: I agree; plants at top with space at bottom for fish is a beautiful look. When I was researching for this project, I found some images of some incredibly lush tanks that were set up that way. I think they were from Japan. Anyway, yes, I will try to do something like that in the future....

Shinier, more metallic-looking fish is a big desire of mine, as is the ability to model individual scales. These will probably have to wait a while until the hardware catches up with our appetite for detail...

Another change that I would like is solid color gravel. There is nothing wrong with the natural gravel you are using, but to me it should be more of a contrast rather than camouflage effect that the natural gravel produces. I have in the past used black, orange, deep blue or purple, but my favorite is a snow white. I think because is showcases whatever is laid or silhouetted against it. White also gives a feeling of openness, spaciousness. But others I know will like the more natural look. But since this is an aquarium we can cheat a little, don’t you think.

Of course Cliff, that would be great, but what do you suggest? I personally do not care for a painted background or photo for my tanks. The few times I tried them was a disappointment to me. You could tell that they set behind the glass. You know how you get a mirror effect on the inside of the aquarium at certain angles, well that could work, but may be hard to do in the program. But in any case keep a simple background, rather it be plants, or painted a color. But if Eric decides to go with floating plants, then you all most won’t need a background, the plants would do it, IMHO>

Marian, - It's all explained in those links in my earlier post!

Remember these? .....

I intended to make another one like this but with different driftwood, and without the shells. - Assuming we get the chance to use one! - I envisage that a photo background would only be used behind a plain empty tank, as in the above AquaReal example!

Yes, Cliff I do remember that one and I really like it as I already said in the earlier post. That type of background would work; it is uncluttered and makes a nice backdrop for the fish. I really love the color also. Can’t you just see white gravel with that blue black background, now that would show off anything in the tank and not interfered with the viewing of it.
