This sounds really nice. Will be great to see the new background and then get new versions and see the difference for every fish that is updated.
Will be like christmas for every updated fish we get.

I read that 50% of the background is done. What does that mean?
Are 50% of the objects done only or are the programming done for those objects so you have a half finished moving tank?

If I remember correctly Jim told me that he has 50% of the background objects done, maybe slightly more now. But in addition I think he has the camera panning working as well.

So there's a chance it might be done by October, then?

Jav has it right - about 50% of the objects are in the tank, many just hanging in space with no connective material. The camera is panning back and forth through the whole width. The resolution is far better than before, and people running it on a 1920x1280 monitor (or HDTV Plasma) shouldn't be disappointed.

Mark - there's at least a 1-in-12 chance that it will be done by some October.

Nobody's doubting that...
Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

back from the depths...

[After awakening from his coma, Shinsa finds a brave new world to explore. Not to mention, seeing a few familiar faces!]

...I had this dream, and you were all there! Morgan, you were a Tin-man... Jav, you were a lion, and Patscarr, you were a scarecrow! And Jim, of course! You were the man behind the curtain, helping everyone!

OK, so thats pretty weird. Anyway, hello to everyone I knew before, in no particular order Jim, Morgan, Jav, Pat, TT and cjmaddy, and everyone I can't remember, and all you newbies that are now old timers. Its been a while. Just look at the forums log in message.

Welcome back, Shinsa

Of course this would be better news if my 1920x1200 monitor didn't walk out the window at 12:35 am on Monday... (This is at work.) Apparently it was a trade for some muddy footprints, I think I lost out there...

And if it does I'm sure if you don't want it you'll be able to turn it off like you can now. Am I right on this Jim?

Considering that hint of reluctance I sense from "Yeah, I guess I'll have to find a place for it.", I'm pretty sure the Quartz will be optional.

I hope you've got backups on memory sticks all over the house.

The 2 TB model is now available for about $1,000 online.

It can be operated RAID5 meaning you have 1.5TB of usable storage and the other .5TB is used for striping and mirroring. If one of the 4 hard drives fails, the other 3 are used to reconstruct all the data. You can immediately start using the drive, but data from that "dead" hard drive will be slower to access as it is reconstructing.

And it's 1000Mbs (gigabit) Ethernet, so you can put it in a separate room from your computers.

I intend to get one soon, so all of my data is stored externally from my computer, so if my computer crashes, it has minimal impact.
