My candidates...

Hopefully these haven't been asked for before, but I didn't see them in a quick look through the thread.

I'd love to see a SallyLightfoot crab added (hopefully it wouldn't be much different to do than a shrimp.)

I'd also like to see some blue or green chromis schooling together. I plan to have both of these species in my reef tank by this summer. And it would be nice to be able to "watch" them while I'm at work.

Green Chromis will probably be the first schooling fish I add.

Yes, green is the only color we are missing in the aquarium.

May I request a Zoom-In feature?

The screensaver looks great as-is, but I really want to get a large TV to hook it up to so the fish can be actual size. Then I thought, it would be great if you could have the option to zoom in about 2x or 3x or so, so the fish would be bigger and be actual size (depending on the size of your monitor). I have a 17” monitor now, but I used to have a 14” (12 viewable), and those fishies were really small. Would there be any problems with this feature? Would it be easy to implicate (to make it easier, just have it scrolling the bottom of the tank left to right, instead of all around up and down)? Would the graphics get too bad (after the 3D background)? I think this feature would be great!

Thumbs Down

This is my first post...............so HELLO to everyone.

I'd just like to thank all involved in the screen saver, its amazingly real. Brings me back to my Marine keeping days 7 years ago (moving house in 3 weeks and im starting up again).

If i could see an addition to the tank, it would be the clams opening and closing or fish "pecking" from the tank bottom/gravel.

Nice Green Chromis picture.

I'd tracked one down for the Wishlist but I'm inclined to crop out one of the ones from that picture.

Regarding a zoom-in feature, no. The one thing I hate most about nearly all 3D apps is the blurring of textures when the camera gets too close. By carefully positioning the camera, I can always maintain crystal-clarity with a 1:1 relationship between the pixels in a texture, and screen pixels.

I spent many months building exactly the right set of circumstances (object sizes, texture sizes, camera angle, field of view, etc.) to create the illusion of reality. Even extremely small variations can instantly break the illusion.

I don't know if this has been wished for before.....
While watching mine today it occurred to me that it would be a nice option to have the fish that swim off the screen to occasionally stay off and be replace with others. That would give the illusion of having a lot more fish in the tank yet not over crowd the system.

We've been over this territory before. The problem with replacing fish without rebuilding the scene is that texture ram seems to get fragmented and eventually crashes the system (the fish textures are not all the same size).

Jim, this is such an often requested feature and I have come up with a solution:

Once the time has expired, fade the foreground and background lights both to black and then destroy and rebuild the 3D world, cycling any RANDOM slots to new fish. Even if it has a few flashes, it doesn't matter.

Ralph - I know, there are an awful lot of posts to look through, and hundreds more from last year that didn't survive the transition to the new board.

Morgan - I'll consider it, but it would mean all the flashing and res changes that go with rebuilding the 3D environment. It's the same as hitting the spacebar twice. Could be hard on some monitors.

Love all The New Fish But.......

One thing I love about a real Aquarium and would love to see in the screensaver is fish chasing each other playfully across the tank.
I can spend hours watching the fish in my tank playing a frolicking game of tag with one another.
This added feature would greatly add a bit of realism to an already amazing work of art.
Of course I realize this feature would only relate to certain species of fish accordingly to their habits.
What do you think Feldon?
Is there potential for this later down the road?

AlabamaTom,

Jim will be adding 'personalities' to the fish sometime in the distant future.

Exclamation Mail icon

When I have the aquarium turned on, and leave the computer for a while it would be nice to know when I come back if I recieved any emails. It would be quite nice if a mail-icon was added to the lower right if I recieved a mail, so I don't have to turn off the aquarium just to check. I understand the that it would be almost impossible to have support for all different emailprograms, but it would be lovely...

Yodelking, please never use the words "icon" and "aquarium" in a connection. There will be probably never any icons at the SS. Waiting for Jim's answer.
