Just some small ideas for future updates:

When I asked about "nostrils" I meant the small bumps that goldfish have between their eyes and mouth - these fish's faces are too smooth to look real. Also Algernon seems to be cross-eyed (the pupil is not centred in the eye).

The tails should glide out more when moving forwards, and there is a lot less "flapping" in real-life.

The front plant on the right side seems to have blue background still attached.

The white part of the fins, in particular the tail fins, is usually much more translucent and less reflective.

The rocks have a whitish covering on their top, I think it would look better if this was a bit darker.

Ps: how about a plant picker - like the fish picker?

Brad,
I agree. A hi-res background would be needed on that one.

Roseangel,
Great suggestions – All of 'em

I must say I hadn't noticed that blue! - It's quite obvious isn't it!

...... and hasn't anyone else noticed the Vallisneria type plant at the front left has no roots! ..... No one here seems to want to know! .......... You did ask us to comment and give feedback!

And whilst on the subject of colour, - the Elodia/Egria type at the back looks a little unhealthy! .... (dead?)

Thanks for replying Jim =)

Goldfish would get eaten up by most of the fish in your tank I would assume. Or to make it realistic, you would have to have all of the fish munch slowly on the goldfishes tails until it dissapears.
I know because it happened to one of my goldfish once I dropped in a silver dollar fish which happens to be in the piranha family, but with no teeth. The goldfish survived and the tail grew back after a few months so everything was ok.

I think it looks great, the best screensaver I have seen

but I agree that the textures do need a lot of improving, the outline of the plants is very obvious (maybe more alpha blending is needed?) and the rock looks pretty pixalated (artfacts)

1. Q: I think it looks great, the best screensaver I have seen

A: Thanks. Every day we fix, change, and improve. It is a lot of fun. Not bad for a beta though

Ok, a very quick and dirty job: http://home.wanadoo.nl/sfinx98/progs/plantpicker.zip

And you have to set the plants before firing up GA.

At almost 25 m long Liopleurodon was the biggest carnivore that ever existed. It had an enormous 3 metre long mouth which contained teeth twice as long as those of Tyrannosaurus.

Cool

I've noticed a couple more bugs that hopefully will be fixed in final release:

*1. When you have all plants turned on, I've noticed three times where a goldfish has been behind the front plant on the left and then morphed right through it to the front.

*2. This beta appears to have the old Windows Me problem where sometimes the screensaver will minimize and disappear leaving the Goldfish tab on the taskbar (just like hitting Alt-Tab). Clicking on the Goldfish tab on the taskbar will redisplay the screensaver properly. (This was a bug in the older versions of Marine Aquarium with Windows ME,...I haven't encountered it yet in Marine Aquarium 2.)

How many fish are in this beta.... I see references to 5 but all I have is 3 (and I assume most others as well).
And, for what it is worth... The tail wagging seems too scripted and happens more frequently when the fish are facing away or head on. It creates a un-natural randomness that provides more time for the fish to moon the viewer.

This exists in a recent build of MA2 but was fixed in the latest latest (5590).
