How about a Highfin Chinese Banded Shark and a Zebra Pleco.
The early bird gets the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese.

A loud "Yes!" on that Pleco. A baby one just like the one in the picture. Those Highfins are cool too. Used to dream about getting one or two of those for my (ex-)girlfriend's tank, but they're a bit too high on maintenance for that...
P.S. Attaching two pictures is (unfortunately) not possible. You'll have to link to pics for it to work. Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

I love the idea of a Figure Eight puffer! I always wanted one but he just wouldn't have fit in well with any of my other tanks and I couldn't afford to buy another one at the time. The animation would be very cool too, it would really make him stick out! I bet he'd become a favorite.
And I want an Oscar too, the fact that my last comment was in the form of a joke doesn't mean I don't want the fish included. Last edited by drfish; 04-18-2002 at 10:29 PM. |

I also like the Figure 8 Puffer, I had 6 of them 8 years ago..
they r just so cute.....but they r also aggressive.....coz I find my othe 4 Goldfish's beautiful tail been bite off so ugly.....and I did witness my puffers were chasing those poor goldfishes... resulting I have to separating them from another tank... and Brazilian Freshwater Puffer is nice too here's a video of a puffer fish http://www.baileys-fish.com/videos/puffer_fwd_01.avi I also have some Kuhli Loach, they r very unique and looks very like a "water snake" I suggest for Glass Fish (Chanda ranga.)and Glass Catfish two videos of Glass fish and Glass Catfish http://www.baileys-fish.com/videos/glass_fish_01.avi http://www.baileys-fish.com/videos/glass_catfish_01.avi The final one is Elephant Nose Fish...this fish has a very long nose they r also very cute and very good to live with other tank members a pic and a video of elephant nose fish http://images.google.co.nz/images?q=...phant_nose.jpg http://www.baileys-fish.com/videos/elephant_nose_01.avi I also like some critters such as shrimp or snail or clam

Kuhlies would be great, but I'm hoping for a cory cat over them. I like the idea of glass cats too, the transparency would be great. Little freshwater ghost shrimp or those crabs would be niffty too, but you're talking about a lot of work when you start bringing up what would really be speciality creatures.
Sounds like Jim is looking at the freshwater tank as an "easy" inbetween before his other serene screens, I'm not sure he's planning on putting the kind of work in this that realistic movement of crabs, shrimp, a puffer, and corydoras catfish would require. Of course he's going to be doing a lot of that when the creature packs for the saltwater come out. I guess I just don't know what to expect, is he going to take this one as seriously as the others we've known about for awhile? Last edited by drfish; 04-15-2002 at 09:27 AM. |

3D plants?
At first I was disappointed that the freshwater aquarium might slow the 3D marine background. But then it occurred to me that freshwater plants, a necessary part of this new aquarium, would have to sway in the water to be realistic. The best part though, is that unlike most features of a marine background, freshwater plants are fairly simple in shape and highly repetitive from one stem to the next. So maybe we and Jim get the best of both worlds - 3D elements in the background, and they are faster and easier to create and model?!

Hey James I had the Kuhli Loach in my Aquarium too. Really cool fishs, but they hide most the time. I had these ones too: http://www.aquascape.co.uk/adolfoi.jpg
Would Like to see both, some betas and something like this one: http://www.aquascape.co.uk/Whiptail.jpg |

Yes you're right the males are great and the females a bit odd. I don't know if both are needed, let Jim choose...

Ixnay, needed for what? I know one thing that requires both...
My personal opiníon is that both males and females are needed eventhough guppy's ain't my favorite. Just thought of something: Guess there'll be a lot more schooling in the freshwater tank than the marine one. Sure hope that doesn't cause too much trouble for Jim... Needed for enjoying the aquarium
These in the pic don't look very good but there are so many different ones, I had one that looked like a tiger, really cool. Different skins would be really good here. |

My wishes for the freshwater aquarium:
- Kois (my favorites) http://www.ultrateck.net/petfood/koi.jpg - a Piranha ( a peacefully of course - I know it's a serene tank) - 3D background also for the fresh water tank (perhaps later) Last edited by Lza; 04-18-2002 at 02:08 PM. |

I agree, a Koi or two would be a nice addition. I had actually posted a message over in the salt forum about Koi not too long ago, but it had to do with another aquarium (not one of Jim's).

Koi is a good idea but not very realistic to put in a tank...
they r often rather big compare to other freshwater fishes.... they usually keep in ponds more then tanks.... may be baby-koi is a nce idea?

Hmmm I don't like them, but aren't Kois goldfishes? Jim said there will be no goldfishes in the tank...and that's good I think.
Hey maybe a new sereneproject: a pond we have one in our garden and it's fun to look in it seeing all this fishes, waterinsects, frogs and other reptiles... |

Kois are carps and not goldfishes!

No Koi Jim? Oh well, things could be worse, but I certainly understand.
I used to keep some Koi in the pond in my back yard and I also kept a single young Koi about 6 inches long inside of one of my freshwater tropical tanks in the house. Keeping Koi in aquariums is very common, but as they grow you should be prepared to transfer them to a pond if you own one or you'll be forced to sell them. Either that or you can buy a larger aquarium. I had to do that for my African Lungfish. Over the years he grew quite large (3 1/2 feet), so I had to keep buying larger tanks to accommodate him. - DL
