Most Picassos are very pale, almost white.

How do you think about a very low power computer version?
I'd like to see the aquarium on older computer with 1-2-4 MB video RAM and 133-300 MHz, without any DirectX or with DirectX 3 for NT (from SP3 or 4). Could this be made? I think a lot of people have some computer of this type and like to see on them the screensaver allways running and use the newer machines to work or play... |

wishlist item:
probably been mentioned before but how about a cuddlefish that changes colors on the fly or matches its immediate surroundings once in awhile?

I do not want to see Jim's time wasted doing this. Version 99L of the Aquarium works well on 4MB video cards. A 1 or 2 MB video card would not have any 3D capability so you have to depend on the CPU to calculate the fish, and a 133-300 Mhz PC would not be able to put out fish of any level of detail. A 300 Mhz CPU, without any help of a 3D accelerator, would be able to display maybe 2 fish, no coral shadows, no bubbles. Basically, you are trying to ask a Playstation to run a Dreamcast game. Ancient PCs are not Jim's market, sorry.

and a Racoon Butterfly was talked about before. those change colors between daytime and night. But, it could be awhile, if ever, before something like that gets included.

future fish, etc.
I think the triggers that Jim included in the Aquarium are very real looking. Perhaps some people don't like how the triggers look, but fault nature for that, not Jim, because he's replicated nature quite well IMHO.
I second the motion to add a Clarkii Clownfish. These clowns have high-contrast coloring (dark body, bright stripes) with bright yellow fins. I have a very healthy one in my reef tank (see attached image). It would be fun to replicate their behavior in the screen saver too. They are pigs - hording most of the food and even storing some away for later. And they never sit still. Cool fish. I'd also love to see a Blennie in the tank. There are many varieties, they all have very funny looking faces, and their behavior is very unique. I bet it would be a big challenge for Jim to animate their movements though...they move much differently from the fish already in the screen saver. |

The Clown Trigger looks spot-on to me, having seen them in real life.
However, the Picasso Trigger... And I know Jim isn't going to change a fish just because one of us makes a comment about it. They're his fish, it's his Aquarium. I could post 20 pictures of fish I'd like to see in the Aquarium, I could prepare the textures and everything, but then it wouldn't be Jim's Aquarium anymore. Jim has been saying repeatedly "if you want your own fish, make your own Aquarium." I figure it would take me 3-4 years to get something as good as Jim's.

Good point, Morgan. But what is the image supposed to show?
/T² Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

Erm. Well, the one on the right has been tweaked in Photoshop a bit.
It's not yellow/orange (sickly) and the colors on the stripes are much more vivid and pronounced. Again, I am only going on fish I have seen personally.

use as wallpaper....wait! Don't walk away yet!
ok, I recently figured out a way to use the screensaver as my desktop wallpaper using a program called 3d animated wallpaper (from 3danimatedwallpaper.com). The problem is that it only works with the microsoft plus version of the aquarium which only has 3 fish. It seems to work with this version because it has that preview screen in the ss selection menu. My request is that you just make the official version of the aquarium work the same way as the plus version with the preview screen. That way, youde satisfy many peoples desire to use the ss as wallpaper and it would be hardly any extra work on your part (i think). I hope I don't get anyone mad by this because I DO realize how many times youve discussed it, but I think this would be the simple solution.
P.S. - On my 2 ghz computer, it runs great as a wallpaper! Not to brag or anything |

I have been enjoying the Mac OS X beta version of the SereneScreen Aquarium and don't know if this has been suggested in a previous post but I'd like to see a cowfish added to the aquarium. I always enjoy seeing them at my local pet store and feel that they would make a distinctive addition to the program!

Holy Cow! Those are some really funky fish. Would make a nice addition IMHO (somewhere in the distant future, of course...)

For a more realistic look, I'd like to see some of the fish picking at the corals or macroalgae. That would be totally cool!
(BTW, I'm using the Mac OS X version.) |

I know, I know, I'm asking for a lot. I have the program set to cycled lighting. I'd like to see the fish slow down when it gets dark, perhaps even find a hiding place to sleep. It looks odd to see them swimming full out with the lights off.

I'd like to second that – sounds like a good idea.

cycle fish
Will a future version have fish swim off the side of the screen and a new fish come back?
No. This is unrealistic and would raise the minimum requirements on video cards to 8MB. Press the SPACE bar twice to cycle the fish. _________________________________________________ Not everyone wants it as realistic as possible. This feature would make the screensaver perfect (imo). If it was included as option (and defaulted to off) it wouldn't raise the minimum requirements too. please rethink... regards, Ewald :-) |
