Leon,

The only ETA you will find anywhere, is 'October' ... year unspecified!

..... (That's an 'in joke' on this forum that's been going on since time began! )

Leon - However long it takes to do the collision detection routines, add two more objects to the background, and create user interfaces. At that point it will switch from Alpha status to Beta, and testing can be opened up to all registered owners.

When 3.0 comes out will you be able to just pop in an old CD and get the whole update free or will you have to buy a new code for an extra price?

We're considering a $5 upgrade.

Didn't we just pay $6 for two new fish?

So, for the results of all these years and years of hard work, and a completely different program, - you want to pay nothing?

Although I see you're point. If 2.0 and 3.0 came out at the same time, 3.0 would still be more expensive. Sorry if I sounded like a jack ***.

MA3 is, a completely different program - No one has paid anything for any part of it, ... yet!

Now I see where you're coming from. Even though it's new everything, it's still serene scene marine aquarium, a newer version of the same thing.

Unless you think of it more like a series instead of an update.

So, I shouldn't have to pay anything for a new Canon S5, because I bought a Canon S3 a few years ago.

So this isn't just an update, it's like halo3 to halo2.

Once again, sorry if I sound like a jack ***.

Cliff, Dabombguyman,

You're both right. MA3 will have been written fresh from the ground up, but if one buys a program version x and then a month later program x+1 is released, one might feel agrieved about the extra cost.

However, in this case, there's no knowing, yet, of exactly when MA3 will be ready, so the comparison might not apply. After all, as a different comparison, we know that MS is working on the next version of its OS, but one wouldn't expect to receive that next version without making an extra payment, even though we know it's in development right now.

(BTW, I'm not comparing the complexity here, just the principle! )

As far as the cost of the upgrade, several months ago I lowered the price of MA2.6 by $5, so that people wouldn't feel cheated to pay the $5 upgrade when MA3 comes out. MA2.6 will continue to be sold, for those whose machines can't handle 3.0.

But yes, it's a whole different program. Every line of code was re-written, and all new objects were created for the tank. It represents four years of work, and thousands of man-hours.

Regarding the Halo comparison, isn't there a monthly charge for online gaming? If I got $10 per month from all the SereneScreen users, I'd gladly make all the upgrades free.

Yes there is. If you play on line with a 360 you got to pay. That's why the PS3 is the better to play. It's free on line gaming.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

True story: A few years ago, I had to pay FULL PRICE to see Star Wars: Episode 3, when I had already paid to see Star Wars: Episode 2, just ONE YEAR BEFORE!

Sure, it was a whole different movie, but the names were almost the same!

You should have waited for the Mac port of the movie, Jim ;-)

Halo 3? Halo 2? Heck I'm still playing Halo 1 on the Mac.

A pattern emerges ....
Reasons people don't watch Star Trek:
60% - It’s for nerds.
39% - The show’s stupid.
01% - My parents were killed by Klingons and it's still too painful.

Paying for an upgrade??

I was lucky enough to get 2.6 as a free upgrade. I'd be happy to spend $10 or so for version 3. I'd like to see a "multiple computer" type upgrade so I can run it on both of my windows boxes....

The way I see it, Jim should be able to make a decent living of MA. He's spent a lot of time developing it. I think its amazing how many computer stores I have been in that use MA as a demo to show off their computers.

My 1.5 year old daughter saw the fish program running in Costco... A few months later she pulled a copy of the program off the shelf, and we've been running it ever since. She's 4 now....
