We could put a "Smilies Help" button somewhere in the Quick Reply that pops up a help page.

By the way, the forum is completely incompatible with Netscape right now! Thanks, Ralph for e-mailing me.

It helps if we have table closing tags.

Why would you want to use Netscape anyways? If you want to use non Microsh*t browser I would recommend Opera (..... Oh, I forget it cost like $40, OK go ahead & use Netscape ) Or you could do like the masses & just use IE
BTW, (while on the subject of browsers) has anyone ever heard of "XWEBS" ( take a look here: http://developers.slashdot.org/artic...1212253&tid=95) Has it been released yet? or is it just vaporware? PS, would be great if it was true (since I'm still on 56k). I'm skeptical of it, probably is vaporware or will cost way too much for the average user to afford. Oh well, we could always dream of the day when this will be possible, ... right? |

Well, sometimes Netscape is just being a pain.
And sometimes Netscape is trying to tell me "hey bud, you missed like 3 whole HTML tags so sure IE displays your page but it takes a while to display it cause it's gotta sift thru and try to guess what the designer meant!!" I had 40 {table}'s and 39 {/table}'s. Not good. heh.

Jav,
One last try. This might be my fault, it's possible that you're idea of a "button" might be different than mine in this case and I wasn't clear as to what I was suggesting. By "buttons" I'm referring only to the banner links. If this isn't in line with the forum's format or scale, then I completely understand and at least I tried. Here's a mock up of what one of the banner "buttons" might look like though -

Oh LOL, You were talking about the photo links. I was thinking "Button" which to me is like the "word" buttons underneath. I kept trying to see how you could get that about a 1/10th that size and still tell what it was. <-- My brain lately.

Hi fishbowl
I don't want to start a... which is a better browser war.... topic here, but. Netscape really is a better browser. I am sure it depends a lot on what you get used to and get familiar with.
Originally posted by fishbowl Because of the dominance of MS most coding is done for IE and my access to those pages suffer with Netscape. But browsing with Netscape means I get very vew popups. Never have I reached a site that changed my home page. Never have I had to pull the plug on my computer because I had 50 open IE porn sites that I could not close fast enough. The IE download information is not nearly as consistant as that of Netscape. I can keep completely separate Netscape accounts without loging off / on (perhaps one can do this with IE as well, but I have not figured that one out yet). My email address book has never been compromised and used as base to send out viri (s?). Why would you want to use Netscape anyways? <snip> OK go ahead & use Netscape ) Or you could do like the masses & just use IE Just a few reasons, to each thier own. And, I use Netscape in protest to the practices of MS. A small and probably futile gesture. Ralph |

Although we may be missing each other on terminology instead of result.
Michael, - We are! ...... Sorry about that!Like Steve, I assumed these were alternatives for the banner, - hence 75 x 75 pixels. (still perhaps a bit big though) Ah well, we got there in the end! ps, I use Photoshop .... (Elements) .... also, as my main image processor. - It was just that when it comes to producing any size of thumbnail, particularly in quantity, I find 'Easy Thumbnails' to be so convenient and VERY quick! ...... I really think you should take a look! ( ...... Unless the full size Photoshop has something I hadn't realized! ) Ralph, I think we could find ourselves agreeing to a point, believe it or not, after my comments here, but as you say, it's all about dominance! ........ What we really need is a common standard ..... NOT competition! .... and I don't care who writes the software, as long as it works! Last edited by cjmaddy; 02-20-2003 at 05:00 PM. |

Ralph said: The only relevant issues when choosing a browser are (in my opinion)I don't want to start a... which is a better browser war.... topic here, but. Netscape really is a better browser. -Does it load pages fast? -Does it display pages correctly? -Does it crash? Netscape failed in all 3 of these time after time for me. Netscape does not even follow their own standards and even the slightest HTML error results in a blank or fragmented page. I was a diehard Netscape fan just like everyone else, rallying against evil Microsoft. Then Netscape 4 came out. They released a dozen point releases, each with bigger problems with java than the last. I gave up after countless 8MB downloads to bump the version from 4.03 to 4.04 and get the same or worse results. I was forced by poor programming on Netscape's part to switch to IE. Even then, I occasionally tried different versions like Netscape 4.72 and the dreaded 6.0. I really wish that IE had not been bundled with Windows and had been a separate $20 product like Netscape, then IE could have won fair-and-square instead of by default.

Morgan,
If you still have some room for a few more smilies, how about this one ( I know it's not really a smilie ), when someone wants to add their 2¢'s to the conversation. |

/Tiny Cent Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

Agreed, I think that one is definately a keeper. So if we count that one we have 8 more to choose if we want to stay ~36 total.

If I may add my 2p/2€(about the right value of the euro!) again, a useful resource for smileys is http://www.mysmilies.com, where it is just a case of selecting the smiley you like and copying the code(URL) which links to it.
e.g. (hope this works on Quick Reply!) |

The smilies that we use here we upload to our server to keep any problems from happening. If you use something from somewhere else and then they close, remove it, change the url, or whatever, then you have lost it here. Which is something I would rather not have happen for the one's we offer for main use.

Morgan, does this work for you? It's 33x32 & 8 frames (6KB). I can shrink it down a bit if it's to big? (Not to much though as it will lose a lot of quality)
