Thanks for the info. I found a store in Rolling Hills which also sells it on rocks, when it's "in season" (whatever that means). I plan to get some soon.

The grower (Gloria) will be in today at that Aquarium shop taking her next order.

Jim Sachs quote:
"When the plant is photographed against a blue background, then clipped out in a paint program by turning blue to transparent, the object still has an outline of almost-blue pixels that acted as anti-aliasing." That came from a rather old post. If you plan on doing this sort of work in the future, you might consider investing in proper chroma keying software such as Ultimatte (available as a Photoshop plugin). You will find that matting out becomes a total breeze as your 'blue screen' pixels are completely eliminated with varying degrees of transparency. Blue spill is also handled automatically in most cases. Needless to say if the plants you are photographing are predominantly green then you are much better off using orange screen. |

Ah, finally a computer expert. Maybe you can tell me why the cup holder on my computer keeps trying to retract.

It depends on whether you are using a PC or a Mac

ROFL. Yes, telstra is the voice of reason here. Ultimatte is $$ but is the industry standard for chroma keying. The question is, does Ultimatte work with day-glo orange? Cause these plants are nearly blue.

I mentioned Ultimatte because I use it and it's a de facto industry standard. It's probably overkill for what Jim Sachs is trying to do. There are plenty of keyers out there that are affordable and probably do near as good a job.

There is no problem using a keyer that handles only blue/green (Ultimatte will key any colour you want). You just hue-shift the whole image until the background is blue/green then shift it back when you are done

Items which are done: The treasure chest, bubbles, 3 rocks, 2 plants, and 4 fish.
Working on the gravel at the moment. The texture projection angle is giving me a hard time, because of the camera's ability to pan.

I know people are going to kick and scream, but the Freshwater is premiering with a 3D background. I saw it when I visited Jim in April and I can tell you the Goldfish Aquarium will have to play catch-up.
