Checkerboard fish
I love the checkerboardfish (the second to the right).
Our technicians are already samping back the image to its original pixel size. Vision is still fuzzy but things are starting to clear up. Was it an open space in the forest Jim? |

And given past input from Encore, would you want to pay attention to them?

I think Pat's post was the most ironic one I've seen on these forums...
Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." /Robert Oppenheimer on witnessing the first thermonuclear detonation in history. |

Upgrade Cost
Jim,
I saw an update in the news page about a "small" upgrade fee for the new MA3.0. Will that still apply to those of us who purchased the screensaver with the "lifetime" upgrades many many many years ago!? Curious Dave

Yes, there will be a small upgrade fee for MA3.
"Lifetime" upgrades are an urban myth. What I said was that some upgrades would be free (there were many), and some would not. My original plan was to make the 3D background free, then charge for extra fish. That was when I was the only person involved. Since then, publishers, distributors, store chains, etc., have become involved and now there are dozens of families to feed. I hear that Micosoft will also be charging to upgrade from Vista to Windows 7

People always told me that in the USA things are always BIG (Cars , Burgers , Coca-Cola etc...)
So.... why are the screenshots so tiny ? Greetings from Belgium

Because I'm getting close to showing you the real thing. Today I got the starfish into the new tank - now to make him able to move around.

That's a great update!
Jim, regarding the starfish's roving area, will it be able to crawl over some of the rocks and corals, or will it be confined pretty much to the gravel bed and 'viewing pane' as before?

Part of the reason for all the coral needing to be made in true 3D was just for this kind of purpose. Yes the starfish will be able to go over/on items, as will other creatures added later.

Initially it may be confined to the gravel, because that's so much easier to program (should be done by tonight). But as the 3D background is brought to life, having the starfish climb the objects will be a top priority.

I have a question about the starfish. When he's on the glass will he be able to go all the way up or just so far like he did before? Reason I ask is when I had mine he would go all the way to the top. He would even be part the way out the top.
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Thats a pretty good question Ed. I'm sitting here trying to remember just why it wasn't allowed to go all the way up before, and I got nothing. Maybe it was because it would get in the way of seeing the fish or something, but if thats the only reason, with the other creatures to be added later even if its limited towards the bottom it will be in the way there as well so I don't see why it couldn't go all the way up now.
Unless there was some other reason I can't remember. Maybe it could be a checkbox thing. [] not on the glass; [] 1/2 way up; [] all the way up. Seems like I do remember Jim saying that he thought he would be able to get to the glass now without darkening the tank to do it.

I think I can help you out there - it's the same reason for not including the really fantastic fish: even though it happens in real life, you wouldn't believe it in this instance.
Because you can't actually *see* the glass, can't appreciate that it is there, a starfish at the top of the glass would just look like a starfish that was hanging about in water looking sheepish. We would wonder why it doesn't sink back to the sea bed. When the starfish is lower down, somehow we still believe in the virtual existence of the glass and it looks good. At least, that's what *I* think!
