Hello,
Long time no speak, read or write in this forum. Popped back to see if there's a new version, pleasantly surprised to see it's coming soon. Thanks for your years of efforts Jim & Co. I've been using Dream Aquarium of late, not least because it will run in native screenmode of 1920x1080 (1080 HD screen dimensions) on our 42" screens in my new store, and the resolution is high enough on the textures to maintain realism, there's no real evident pixels or jaggy edges etc - it's polished. Now I'm eager to come back to MA, but from the screens I saw earlier in this thread I'm a bit concerned the backdrops aren't high enough resolution to be photo-realistic on a large screen. Also, I'm now very used to the 3D backdrop and tank of DA, is this a feature we might see in MA3? Thanks guys. |

Everything in the new version is true 3D, and it should look great on your large screen.

Good show, if it's as good clartiy as DA then I'll be extremely happy indeed, and won't hesitate to buy.
Jim, ramp up the res my man. Oh, btw...they now have a customise backdrop feature, will such customisation or other graphic insertion feature be available in MA? |

MA3 contains one background which is fully 3D and about 2 1/2 screens wide. There is no customization.

The super-hiRes 3D background is the whole reason for MA3.

I'm not sure how close it is at this point, probably only Jim knows. Prolific is working on the user interface at this time, and Jim was working on the collision avoidance routines for fish to background and fish to fish. It is definately making progress overall, but release depends on the "good enough" point Jim decides on for beta release to the public. After that, he will continue to make refinements, and introduce upgraded fish and creatures along with overall tweaks.
I don't think we are a week away or anything, but we're not months either. My guess is after Prolific gets done the testers will need to have a go at it to hunt for bugs/problems to be fixed while Jim continues his part. Maybe shortly after that.

We were hoping to have it in Beta last week, but some difficult multimonitor bugs have arisen. Edgar at Prolific is working on those. I'm currently working on the fish-picker interface. I think the only thing left after that is finding some decent MIDI instruments to go with the default music.

I just downloaded 2.6 and installed it. Crashed my system (Vista home premium, 8800 gts vid, 2 gigs ram) in the screen saver menu. It did originally work briefly.... sigh.
Oh well, anyone else have similar specs and the sim crash? |

Jim
I think this question was asked before but not answered....Are there any criteria/s set for who would be chosen as the beta testers? Like all forum members be beta testers or something like that?

Vish - Yes, my plan is to open up Beta testing to the general Forum.
As far as screen shots, etc. - it's not really worth taking the time right now.

Will the MA stretch over two full widescreen monitors with a dual resolution of 3360 by 1050?
