Maybe its an age thing Jim, like some of the others from juvenile to adult. Either that or a regional thing depending on where it was caught. I did find one interesting article about a very rare hybrid. Yes yes I know thats no help, but it was interesting.

The one I saw in a pet shop was purple, more of a blue purple rather than the red that purple can sometimes be.
In fact you almost want to say blue.

Thanks, Marian. Do you remember how big that one was? I'm trying to determine if they change color with age.

I suppose you have already seen this page:
http://www.fishbase.org/Summary/Spec...6&lang=English From pictures and descriptions I've seen, I would say the blue in some pics comes from different lightning conditions, the fish itself seems to be black or dark-brown. I'll visit local pet shops, maybe they have one. Here is a picture of a juvenile, the orange circle is'nt full developed yet. |

I thought it was a young one, but I didn't ask. At the time I was keeping a saltwater tank and so I checked out the fish pretty often, I never bought the Achilles Tang, I like the yellow tang better. The fish was a little larger than my hand. It has been about fifteen years ago and that was at a pet shop in Raliegh. At the time I wasn't sure of the name of the fish, I knew it was a tang but that is all until later when I was reading up on them.

Blackish-purple, but there is a green sheen that light brings out.

That's pretty close to how I remember it. Only those shots are a little darker, but it has been fifteen years since I saw that one.

Well, I'm glad we cleared that up! I guess I'll make it blackish-bluish-brownish-purplish-gray.

Do we get to vote on this? I cast my vote for deep chocolate brown with a rich carrot or very ripe papaya orange spot.

Sorry Jim. Guess we're kind of anxious to help out even if we don't know how...
/Tiny It'll Be Right Either Way Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.
"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried, most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad-Gita. Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and to impress him takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now, I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another." /Robert Oppenheimer on witnessing the first thermonuclear detonation in history. |

Very nice! The "tang" must be the orange part, right?
