Angry

I have both 1.2 fully registered and 2.0 (no keycode yet ) installed on my Dell laptop.

On battery power (slowest possible start up) , it takes approximately 3 seconds for each version to start. There appears to be one "flicker" of the screen on the new version compared to none on the 1.2, but the start up time is essentially the same.

On ac power, with the Intel Speed Step on Max Perf, the startup time for both versions is 1.5 seconds. The "flicker" on Ver 2.0 is nearly imperceptible on AC.

BTW, Version 2.0 is GREAT. On batteries, limited to 30 fps, CPU utililization averages an economical 20%. On AC it's a meager 5%! The battery cpu utililization increases because the Speed Step reduces CPU speed from 2 ghz to 1.2 ghz, and the ATI Powerplay reduces the chipset power, putting more load on the CPU. Still, 20% is excellent and really makes use of the graphic chipsets power. Great job, guys!

One click and it works for me...about 1/2 second. I have it set to my screen resolution (1280 x 1024) and 32 bit color. The monitor is an LCD.

My monitor does not really "click" but once, but the screen does go black for about 1-3 seconds before the SS starts and when it shuts down. I run the desktop at 1024x768x16 and the SS at 1024x768x32.

I run and AMD XP-1800, ATI Radeon 7000 (VE), 256Mb DDR. Iyama (sp?) monitor.

When I run Marine Aquarium I hear one click, but when I run Marine Aquarium Time I hear no clicks. They are both run at the same resolution and the same 16bit depth. How come I get a click in one and not the other?

Marine Aquarium Time has a slightly newer (3-4 days) DirectX negotiation process. This will be rolled out in MA2 soon.

For a fan I wonder what you don't know about this screen saver.
You are just a fan right? Have you developed any of this?

I nagged Jim for about 6 hours one day to get the Flame Angel coloring to where it is now. His visitation to the chatroom dropped significantly after that.

so i'm new here and i downloaded the demo. i'm running my desktop at 1024 x 768 x 32 and when I run the demo in 1024 x 768 x 16, it clicks 6 times in 5 seconds before it starts (and 4 times to get back to desktop). When I run it at my desktop settings I get no clicking and only about a second before it starts.

My problem is that in 16bit mode it only uses 15% of cpu but in 32bit it uses 100%. I haven't purchased this program yet because I dont want a screensaver using 100% of cpu and the 6 clicks makes me a little nervous. Most programs I have only take 2 clicks. But let me just say that this program looks amazing and I hope that this bug with 32bit will get fixed soon so that I can put it to the test again.

Just so you know, I am running P4 1.7 with ATI 8500 vidcard with 128 MB. Also, I have 768 MB RAM. Hope that helps. Good luck!

If you've been hanging on for a version of MA2 with almost no monitor clicking, here it is. It also fixes several other bugs.

PLEASE do not download this version unless you feel you need it because of a problem you are having:
https://www.feldoncentral.com/Sachs/...rium2-5430.zip

This download does not come with an installer. It is a drop-in replacement for your existing Marine Aquarium 2.scr file.

If you set the Aquarium to the same refresh rate (dxdiag) and depth as Windows, you should get no clicks. Granted 32-bit usually causes high CPU unless you have a GF3 or GF4.
