Panthera,
I do hope you get one after all your efforts, - yours will probably arrive long before mine!

The marketing strategy for this product must surely be questioned. I can understand there may be details that we don't or can't know about, but two points that have puzzled others as well as me are:-

Why has it never been available direct from Prolific? - and - Why is it still on the SerenScreen web site?

I think others will agree with me that this has been an opportunity missed!

The web site is still showing it as, 'Coming Soon!' ???

It should be changed to "Came and Went"

Cliff,
Thanks, I just placed my order with Video Universe.
Order Date: 12/17/2003 4:12:42 PM EST (That's 1:12:42 PM PST my time - 8hrs behind you ). I'm hoping tomorrow my shipping status will say "Shipped."

I noticed that "Coming Soon" on the SereneScreen website. It confused me a bit, then realized it had to be an error.

It's really nice.. but I guess there's no way to change which fish you want.. like with the screensaver. There are several settings (Aquarium List) of different types of fish in which to use. One is all lionfish.. one is all stripes and solids. There are 6 different settings. Make sense? Another thing I noticed.. is it seems to be somewhat pixilated on my tv.. unlike the Nemo DVD. Of course I could be comparing apples and oranges here.. so forgive me as I know little about this and DVD's etc.

Under Bonus Material lists: The Cast, About Marine Aquarium, How This Was Made, and Reviews.

The Cast: Shows the picture and name of the fish.

About Marine Aquarium: The original Marine Aquarium screensaver was developed by well-known artist, Jim Sachs. He painstakingly studied saltwater fish, their habitats and movements, then created a hyper-realistic simulation screensaver, which quickly became a worldwide best seller!

The Marine Aquarium DVD is high-quality digital footage taken directly from a Macintosh version of the screensaver, highlighting various combinations of 21 fish and the starfish. For more information about the Marine Aquarium, visit www.SereneScreen.com or contact us at service@serenescreen.com.

The sound is much louder than I expected.. it almost sounds like water falling into a pond. It's a nice sound but I lower it a bit so it's not so dramatic. Overall it's a great piece for my TV! I wonder how it woud look on a bigger screen.. or if it were on one of those new digital flat screen TV's. Think it would look different? Less pixilated?

The DVD is approx. 120 minutes and the automatic lights feature is also active.

Thanks a lot for the info Panthera, I can't wait to get my hands on my copy! - it's probably crossing the Atlantic on a rowing boat as we speak! - I must be patient! - but I think it may now be next year before it arrives!

Mon 29th Dec. - The Aquarium DVD arrived today.
It's a great novelty! - but unfortunately that novelty does soon start to wear off a little. - As we had already been told, it's only in 4x3, and whilst the distortion at 16x9 surprisingly does not really look too bad, it's difficult at any format to get it to match up to the definition we have become used to, from the screensaver version on our computer monitors.
Having said that, for $8.79, I have no regrets about sending for it, though it would have been nicer in 16x9 and with higher definition. Some control over the setup, like the screensaver version, would also have been nice, but I don't see how that could have been done with a DVD!

The cover art on the case is beautiful, unfortunately the content is just a little disappointing, - the transfer to DVD does not quite live up to expectations, - IMHO!

A nice addition to the Serenescreen collection though!

ps, - At least it contains the original Queen Angel! .... that can't be bad!

Cliff. Thanks for your post. I ordered my DVD on 30/12/03 and received it to-day. I think it is excellent and I feel you downplayed it just a little. In our money it is a gift even with air-mail costs. I cannot understand why it isn't selling well. Why is it not publicised by Prolific I cannot understand.

clifdene,
I'm glad you are pleased with the DVD, sorry if I downplayed it too much, but I didn't want to give the impression that the picture was equal to the quality that is possible from the screensaver when viewed on a good computer monitor.
I agree with you that even with shipping costs, it is a bargain! - I have given up on Prolific's marketing strategy!

Cliff. You are quite right of course. It does not match the quality of the screensaver but even on a widescreen TV it is very acceptable.

DVD today 2005

Anyone how knows where to find high resolution fish tanks DVD:s for widescreen televisions, this year 2005? I welcome your ideas and reflections. It's of great interest as a christmas gift to my brother, who knows nothing about PC:s or screen savers.
