Welcome to the Mac OS 9 Beta Forum

This used to be the Mac OS 9 Beta Forum Announcement. Now that Mac OS 9 version 1.1 is released, we are retiring this part of the forum.

Bug in OS 9 v0.99.7b1?

The software desn't seem to retain the key code/serial number through a bootup. Next time the machine is booted, with the software launched at startup, it launches the registration screen again.

Please send an Apple System Profiler of your system's hardware, devices, and extensions. We're unable to repro this either, so we need some details. Thanks.

OS9 beta won't retain keycode

We purchased a keycode yesterday for Mac OSX version of the Aquarium. Everything works perfectly. However, when I downloaded the OS9 beta version and applied the keycode, I could not get the keycode to stick. As soon as I quit the program, the keycode is not retained and I am requested to reenter it. This has happened repeatedly on both our computers: an original iBook and an iBook (dual). If you are still requesting a copy of the Apple Profiler, where do we send it?

If you ran previous versions of Aquarium for OS 9 then you need to throw away the preferences and startup documents from the old version. Look in System Folder:Preferences: and System Folder:Startup Items: for the files.

Thanks for address

For some reason I keep logging in and the system doesn't recognize it by the time I get to a thread and want to post a reply. Same thing happens when I click on Profile--although I've logged in 3 times this session, I get a message that I'm not--

Server down?

I sent the system profile but the Daemon says:
<<Unable to relay for {EDITED}User unknown>>

Jim has put the beta e-mail up above.

Key Code Not Sticking

For others with the problem of the keycode not sticking in OS9, my keycode only began to stick after I activated the extension "Apple Enet". Hope this helps.

Beta Expired

Is there a time limit on the beta version? I'm running 9.2.2, and after three weeks to the day, Marine Aquarium failed to launch. I downloaded another copy and trashed my preferences--but had no luck. I then set my system date back and the aquarium worked just fine. I am a registered user. When will another version be available? I miss it already. Thanks.

Re: Beta Expired

Yes, there was because of an oversight on my part. A new build will be posted shortly.

I'm running this on an iMac rev. B(so it can be done) and I think it's the coolest thing, even at the 19 fps, it amuses me to watch the fish swim. The star fish doesn't move around a whole lot, but that's not a biggy. I wish there was a dvd version of it, or some way to port this to a television, I'd leave it on all the time...lol..Great job, Jim on the OS 9 version...thnx

The starfish is pretty pokey. He may get his amnesia fixed pretty soon. We're all gratified by people who appreciate the work Jim Sachs, the folks at Prolific, and Order N Dev put into the product. Thanks.
