I've always liked that website.

How Joe keeps an anemone and clownfish alive in the same tank is beyond me.

I thought that anemones and clownfish "kind of liked" each other?

Yes, but I didn't think it was easy to keep them alive.

I can't remember if I had a clown fish, but as I recall, Ifound it hard to keep any of my salt water fish alive... LOL.

I hear it's easirer now with all the living rock, etc. This was 18 years ago now.

I had a puffer fish that was supposed to eat either goldfish or some kind of frozen worm stuff. He didn't eat either. Actually I am not sure what the hell he ate. He did live about 9 months and then died.... like all the rest.

I was so relieved when I made the decision to downgrade from salt to fresh because my tank went from being a source of daily anxiety and stress to being a source of daily calming.

I need to fire that baby back up.

Awesome tank.

Is the Yellow Tang the only livestock?

besides the coral, which is the primary reason I have the tank ;-), I have a yellow tang, 1 regular urchin, 3 serpent stars, a Pajama Cardinal, a 8 line "japanese" wrasse, and a gold stripe maroon clown and a wee green chromis. I plan on getting a naso tang eventually, and maybe a mandarin goby. coral-wise I have a bit more:
sinularia, nepthea, acropora(several varieties), tri color acropora, millepora, porites(atlantic and pacific), pocillopora, montipora capricornis (several, in different colors), long polyp sarcophyton, 2 kinds of short polyp sarcophytons, ricordea, discosoma, zooanthids, candycane coral, blastomussa, gorgonian, xenia, greenstar polyps, and a couple more which i can't think of right now

Awesome tank I love it . How long did you have this setup ? And how long did it take you to set this up ?
Thank you for taking the time to read this.

This is one of the best Marine tanks I have seen in a while. I would love to see some nice angels in it. Ones that would really stand out. Right now the yellow tang looks to be the only resident. His bright color is obvious while the others may blend in with the corals. But still beautiful corals and very nice quality in presentation.

it's a long story, but the tank per se is relatively new (march of this year was when I set it up) before that I had a 72G tank which is where most of the stuff came from. The tank inhabitants are about 3 years old (rock, etc)

Thanks for the compliments. Angels per se are kind of hard to keep in reef tanks becaue they have a tendency to nip at the coral polyps. I will be working on the fish population, but it will not increase too much as the amount of fish in the tank affects teh water quality for the corals.

here is a picture of the 90G setup:

and some pictures of my 72G which had a lot more large polyped corals in it:

and lastly, here is a picture of the little 6G tank I had here at work until the cleaning people came to do there thing, touched what they were not supposed to, and needless to say, when I came back that monday, the tank had crashed, it stunk, and everything in it died [] (the tank had just completed it's 14 month anniversary)

and the "after :'(

Oh my goodness, I can feel your heart break, when you have kept fish for any length of time, you know the work that goes into it, especially a marine setup. I had a saltwater tanl for about five years, but mine concenrated on fish more than anything else. I did love it, but let it go after a failure such as you report. I have only goldfish at this time, and no plans to keep to keep any others. Good luck

i am contemplating setting the little one up again. I am still trying to figure out whether to do that or get up a 20G tank with only zooanthids in it.

6G, wow I bet that one was a royal pain to keep up with. I am considering starting a salt tank again myself, but if I do it will be at least 125 gallons but I would prefer somewhere around 180. The first tank you posted looks very nice and well done, but personally I prefer less coral and more room for fish. Welcome to the forum.

thanks a lot guys! :-)

actually the 6G was the least trouble to keep.
I never checked levels or anything. I would do a 95% water change every 2-3 weeks and that was it. I would change the little carbon filter out with each water change. That would keep the water clear. The tank was doing great until Dr. Death touched it.
