Just a thought, but why not send it as an e-mail attachment to all those you are about to notify that it is ready. It is relativly small and presumably every one on the notify list wants the new version. Would this not save haveing your servers blitzed with people trying to D/L at the same time.

Send the whole 1-meg file attached to every e-mail? Too big.

Prolific will be sending notification emails out about 5,000 at a time. Bear in mind that each one must contain the customer's new Key Code.

Our "old" key will not work? Mine is "almost" new and only used once.

Nope, the 1.1 version requires the new 20-digit Key Code. Everyone in the database will receive their new Key Code by e-mail.
For those whose addresses have changed, there will be a special section of the website where they can type in their name and old Key Code. The system will look them up in the database and issue them a new-style code.

Just found out from Prolific that the roll-out is planned for next Wednesday, Feb 20.

I guess that you can notify them on Wednesday that v1.1 is available for download.

If their current email address is in the database, then they will also get a message from Prolific with their new Key Code in it. If they get only your message, then they'll know that their database record is not current, and they can contact Support.

At least that's how I assume it will work. With the huge number of people involved, it will be a gaggle now matter how we try to do it.

Anyway, everybody tell your friends -- only 5 more days to get in on the Beta price of $19.95.

Just a thought.

How about posting the download link for the new version one day early for us loyal fans here.

This will do a couple of things.

1. Take some of the stress off the download servers on Wednesday. (This will be a good test for them anyway to make sure they are ready for the bandwidth that will be required.)

2. Give your fans that use Feldon’s awesome fan site a “head start”.

I know that the program will not work, but then all we would have to do is wait for our new code to be emailed from Prolific, punch it in and enjoy.

Just a thought.

Possibly too late but how about making a list for those that don't mind a 1 meg attachment. Feel free to attach my copy with my notice and serial. One other way to save some of the load on your servers would be to have it available through IRC or post it on one of the binary newsgroup groups. I suspect a good number of your audience knows one or the other.
