Cool New ATI software glitch?

Since updating to the ATI video card Oct 2002 software update, my formerly colorful Aquarium has faded to two-color blue and yellow - kinda beautiful in its own way, but it ain't right. It also fades completely to black then back up, instead of simply fading to light and dark. Anyone have the same problem with the new ATI software? Their former release worked fine. I can easily go back to that, but wondering if there was a fix, or if anyone knows what gives here. Apparently ATI installed a new GL engine. Have checked and reset all monitor settings - still no go. All other screensavers, including other GL-based, work fine. It's just Aquarium that's no longer up to speed.

Yeah, I have it now too since intstalling the ATI update yesterday! The problem seems to be that the foreground light is 'burned out' by the update. All the lighting is from the background light only - that's why with automatic lights it goes to pure black.

I always keep my background light almost all the way down, and my aquarium now has a midnight purple look, as if I've put a black light in it! Kinda cool actually, but definitely not right. Also if I switch to wireframe-fish mode so that I see real coral and wire-fish the forground light does work a little, but actually flickers on and off like a real flourencent aquarium bulb that's burning out.

So bizarre!

It looks like the red channel is being ignored - which is what you'd see if you were diving since the red frequencies of light are absorbed by the ocean water soonest.

So it's a feature instead of a bug?

No, it's definitely a bug. Would like my daytime aquarium back. Can easily do so with old ATI software, but hoping I could correct the problem somehow. Maybe the next update will take into account ATI's new drivers...

ATI is aware of the problem and should have a fix soon.

WOW! Really? ATI is going to fix it? I hope soon doesn't mean before the end of the year. I guess in the meantime I can enjoy some of my other cool screensavers that have been ignored since I got SS.

You could just roll back to the good ATI driver.

You guys should see how poorly the ATI and nVidia drivers operate when they first come out on the Windows side. We have had to tell thousands of customers to delete the "new" drivers and go back to drivers that actually work!
