Bubble sound suddenly too loud

This didn't do it before, and I'm not sure why. I can hear the mp3 song starting, and then a few seconds later the bubble sound becomes full blast. I can open up the volume adjustment and make it low again (the setting really has not changed, so I don't even need to move the slider much) and it's fine, even when it starts another song.

I've been trying to narrow it down, and I thought it only happened when the program starts with a music volume less than maximum. I can open the program and change the volume of Music to be less than maximum. Then close the program and restart it. And the bubble noise goes maximum 7 seconds after starting the program. I can open the program and change the Music volume to the maximum and it's hit or miss whether the bubble noise stays normal or not. *sigh* I had a repeatable fix but the last few times it's gotten loud regardless of the Music volume. *grrr* And now it's doing it all the time.

Sorry I couldn't narrow it down further. Running XP on a Dell Dimension 8400.

This is a bug which I have been chasing, but still don't know what's causing it.
