Unhappy Screen Freezes - Rage 128 VR AGP

Running ver 2 on Winxp 2.4ghz 512meg ram system.

Have set monitor and saver to 800 x 600, and saver to 640x480 16 bit on both, reduced fish to 1, closed all open applications, upgraded to direct x 9, checked/unchecked all boxes on saver, downloaded the latest driver for the vid card. All with no luck, the screen keeps locking up.

Vid card is Rage 128 vr agp

What else can i possibly do to get this saver to work?

HELP ME! I am spending more time on troubleshooting than work!

I'll take "Why I hate ATI for $1,000, Alex!"

2.0 has been tested on that card, and should work (although with a fairly low frame rate). Could you give us a little more info about those drivers?

Was running the latest driver on the ATI web site for Rage 128/WinXP.

Decided to try a new card and p/up the G-Force FX 5200 which has 128 megs on it. Versus the 32? on ATI Rage 128.

The saver has run for 24 hours at 32 bit color on both/bubble on/sound on/1162x864/Having a program log on and off the net/checking for updates with bigfix/Having 4 scheduled tasks running in the background including backups.

As you can see I am trying to tax out my new card to see/prove the ATI was the problem.....

NO LOCKUPS in 24 hours! "Knock on wood"

Thanks for the reply, i appreciate the fact that you were willing to work with me on the problem, but I had had it with the card as my troubleshooting kind of told me the card was having some kind of problem. I hope I did not jinx it....thaniks again....I will let you know the results of anything changes on my end...

THANKS AGAIN FOR YOUR CONCERN AND GETTING BACK TO ME!............MZ

From a Rage 128 to a FX5200 – Methinks that would provide a visible difference...

Thanks to Morgan, Tiny Snapshots is up and running again with "Tiny Järvafält" as the latest addition – Go have a look and tell me what you think.

The story continues....came home from being out of town and i was locked up. Am adjusting down to 16 bit on both, 1024/768, removing bubble and will see.

I did notice that a MS update was avail, wonder if that program logged on/d-loaded the update and messed up the saver...No that could not be it....MS never causes any issues...Ha Ha

I will turn off auto d/load updates and see if that help. I am sure its just a tweak here or there.

Thanks for always having good info...or good humor to my posts.....mz

We all have opinions.

I prefer nVidia because of ease of use, but ATI are a bit more powerful and have much better TV-out quality.
