There is no dual monitor version right now.

Unless you own a Mac. The Mac version includes both widescreen and multiple monitor support.

(Sorry. Couldn't resist. Well, maybe not THAT sorry! <img src="images/smilies/smile.gif" border="0" alt=""> )

I was able to run three different instances of the aquarium. (3 diif versions) in windowed mode on three monitors. Although only two would run at fullspeed, the other would be jumpy.

that sounds that only ur primary monitor has 3D accelerate where the other two rn't, some of the dual/triple head card only support primary monitor for 3D accelerate, I have the same problem b4 testing on Maxtor's dual head card, the second monitoe has no 3D acceleration therefore the FPS is only 2~3, but later I use WinFast nVidia card which support both monitor for 3D acceleration.

Why are MS getting the blame for this ? There are many other apps running in windows that use multiple screens with no problems....

If there are speciic problems, then post them here, some of us may be able to help.

Some food for anyone who might be working on multiple monitor support for the Aquarium screen savers (PC's)

Having finally configured my system to have two monitors side by side, displaying 1280x1024 each, I've had a chance to play with the configurations a little. I've also seen how the various screen savers I have react to the multiple monitors.

Flurry actually has an option for dual monitor support. Unfortunately, OpenGL performance (I think) is lacking on my video card, so these options slow the saver down so much that they are not worth having. It looks cool to have the screen saver span the two monitors, though.

The other screen saver I have that supports multiple monitors, albeit differently, is the Finding Nemo screensaver from Disney's web site:

http://www.findingnemo.com/

Click on Downloads > Screensaver

This screen saver duplicates its image on both of my monitors.

I hope this will help whomever may be working on the multiple monitor support. As a developer, I know that having examples is often very helpful when trying to achieve similar results.

My configuration:

Matrox G450 Dual-Head 32MB
- DualHead Multi-Display
- Separate resolutions and color palettes for both displays

I would be happy to help with any testing relating to this configuration if the Prolific developers do not have a Matrox-based system.

We actually have a dual/multi monitor support available in our test bed. In fact we have three different engines supporting it, but none of them are released yet. The problem is not being able to support it, but to support it cleanly so as not to break anything else.

Win98, Win2000, WinNT, WinME, WinXP and WIn??, we have to decide how compatible it has to be.

Isn't it also true that different cards work more or less good with this? I.e. What works fine on an nVidia card might yield a different result on a Matrox card, but something that looks good on the Matrox messes the ATis up.

Some here will most likely disagree, but I think at some point, you have to cut the ties to outdated OS's and concern yourself only with supporting those versions that are being supported by the OS developer.

I think Win98 and WinME have fallen off that track, IIRC. NT should be pretty close to the same.

If you can get dual-monitor support working on XP, people that have earlier versions will need to understand that it's not possible to support outdated OS's forever.

If you wanted to be very generous, throw 2000 in there for good measure, but stuff like this is primarily geared towards non-enterprise applications, and 2000 should be rare enough not to ruffle too many feathers if it wasn't supported.

"2000 in there for good measure"?

You're kidding right? I won't touch XP with a 10 foot pole.

I've been running XP for well over a year now, with no problems whatsoever. It's much more stable than Win98, but I have no point of comparison to NT or 2000 since I passed by those OS's.

Reports of XP's instability are either overinflated or a result of bad hardware, or something. At least in my experience, and in the experience of others that I end up helping, XP has been a very good OS.

I will go for weeks without rebooting, and then it's usually because of some software install or Windows Update that requires a reboot. And that's with switching between 3 profiles multiple times a day.

All this said, I wouldn't put it past anyone to have troubles with particular hardware/driver/software configurations. There are so many opportunities for trouble that I wouldn't be so bold as to say that no one has any problems with XP, or any OS for that matter.

So I guess they should keep 2000 support in there for you, huh?

I have to say I've been very happy with XP too. The only other OS I've had experience with are Win95/98. XP is much more stable than 98 that's for sure.

People didn't switch to 2000 because it wasn't marketed as a replacement for 98.

At the time, people had too many DOS apps and games that don't work on 2000.

Now, 99% of programs you run on XP run perfectly on 2000 and with much less bloat.

So, getting back to the originally scheduled topic, I've now got two monitors, and fish on only one of them!

Two side-by-side LCD monitors are a wonderful thing, I should have taken this plunge (LCD *and* dual-monitor) long ago. I anxiously, but patiently, await the arrival of dual-monitor support in the Marine Aquarium or Freshwater Aquarium.

As I have before, I offer my Matrox P450 dual-head WindowsXP configuration for beta testing.
