Well, I might consider adding them to the Freshwater tank, but I'd have to find out if they would be compatible. Also, I don't do fish which I haven't seen in real life. Given the rarity of arowanas, that could present a problem.

I highly doubt that you had other fish inside the tank with the arowanas
I highly doubt that you had other fish inside the tank with the arowanas and they lived in harmony. The many tanks I've seen have the other fish hiding for their lives in fear of those fish. They eat all fish you put in the tank rather quickly (one at a time). (It's an impressive sight to see.) Now, if you are talking about the baby arowanas, they can be in a tank with larger fish and they aren't too bad with them until they get hungry. It would be nice to see a baby one in the tank though. Arowanas are hard to maintain because they need extra care and die if they are mistreated (tapping on glass at petstores).
I checked out your website and found this link to be what you probably intend for mixing awrowanas.. http://www.arofanatics.com/index.php...ankmates01.mpg That red parrotfish is one mean fish also.. |

Ok there are some fish the arowanas don't like to eat. I may be wrong, but most of the fish in the pictures that are together with the arowans look very scared, just look in their eyes . They do eat medium sized fish when you drop them into the tank and they are hungry. I've seen them being fed many times. The arowanas I'm talking about were the size of large barracuda. They are scary looking fish that do look like a prehistoric dragon fish.
It's ok, you don't have to show me any more pictures, I believe you that other fish can get along with these monsters and live in harmony. I can't afford to pay for the fish to feed the arowanas and I barely have space for my current aquarium so that's why I don't have an arowana tank. That and a baby costs about 50 dollars. Perhaps in the future when I get married and have my own home, I'll take up that hobby. I'm definately going to have a saltwater aquarium with very colorful fish in the living room. |

There's a pet store not far from here that had, last time I was there, four or five 1' to 1 1/2' arowana, along with a couple of stingrays and a few other South American fish that I couldn't name off the top of my head. One of them was shaped like the "leaf fish" I used to see in stores, maybe you know what I'm talking about.
I think that if it's too big to swallow, and minds its own business, the aro's will likely leave it alone. And they stay up near the surface, so bottom-swimming fish won't be in their "turf" as much. Jim- when you say "if they're compatible," you mean as far as water conditions go, right? Obviously they wouldn't be compatible with most of the Freshwater Aquarium's fish in a predator-prey sense, but then the SSA ignores that altogether. |
