Number of fish

Hello,
Jim is there any way that we can add more than 30 fish into the tank?

I understand that for some users and for it to look appealing and to stop a nasty number of collisions that a limit is needed but is there a crude way that we could increase the number of fish?

PMJI. First of all, I have been a user of Marine Aquarium for more than five years. I had given up on ever seeing another version, and much to my surprise came upon v3b by accident while searching for another aquarium. So thanks for the great work, nice to see all of the improvements!!!

So now that we have this great panning tank, my question is, what is a "realistic" number of fish to have in there? Notwithstanding the OP's wish to have more than 30 (!), even that many seems like an awful lot of fish in one tank. Anyone have any thoughts?

Glad you have been enjoying the aquarium for so long, and welcome to the forum. Glad you made it.

As for your question, some of that is subjective and depends on the type and size of the fish. But, a general rule of thumb for a Marine tank is 1/2" of fish per gallon of water. More than that and you are pushing the limits of healthy. Of course to a certain extent, more frequent water changes, better filtration, etc etc can extend this somewhat.

I think Jim's tank simulates about 200 - 250 gallons. Therefore about 125" of fish would be considered "normal" and healthy for this size tank if you used 250 gallons as your basis. All of Jim's creations are juveniles, and would probably be in the 4-5 inch range in length, so realistically if it's 250 gallons, probably about 25 juveniles would be fine. The problem would come with age and growth, some would have to go.................................

I'd guess that a dozen fish would be comfortable in this tank, along with 3 or 4 invertebrates. Maybe a few more fish after I introduce schooling.

Thanks for linking that saltwater site Bablu. I watched all of those beautiful videos and I am reading the articles. I never knew how active and aggressive some of the reef corals are. The SereneScreen animations are already brilliant and as Jim continues to animate the tank it is going to look spectacular. I wonder what the next update will bring.

A new coral is coming very soon. Yesterday I finally had the breakthrough I've been waiting for regarding the animation. This is a fairly simple critter, but for some reason the way of doing the movement has eluded me for weeks. Now I just need to clean it up a bit and I'll be posting a new Beta.
