I did yes, maybe that was it.

I think the theme changes only came into effect after a reboot (although I may be wrong) therefore giving me the impression it was a problem with the V2 installer.

Same here, my wife's PC was running a slightly older version of the SSA which included that installer, so that makes perfect sense.

Yes, the early 1.1 installer was a mess for XP users.

If the early 1.1 installer went so far as to turn off ClearType (text smoothing) or true-color desktop icons, please use the Registry script at the Fan Site to restore these, as Microsoft removed the buttons for them from the Display -> Settings control panel.

Yes, that's the same problem I was talking about in the chat last night. I thought it was something I had done. Turned off my clear type and my "Use large Icons". The registry cleaner worked great though, I reinstalled the new version and things are working great again.
